This first trailer for Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood looks more like Gladiator 2 at parts, and seems to have the same type of musical preferences as Clash of the Titans. Head on over to Apple’s trailer page to get a look at how beautiful warfare looks in HD.

Robin Hood chronicles the life of an expert archer, previously interested only in self-preservation, from his service in King Richard’s army against the French. Upon Richard’s death, Robin travels to Nottingham, a town suffering from the corruption of a despotic sheriff and crippling taxation, where he falls for the spirited widow Lady Marion, a woman skeptical of the identity and motivations of this crusader from the forest. Hoping to earn the hand of Maid Marion and salvage the village, Robin assembles a gang whose lethal mercenary skills are matched only by its appetite for life. Together, they begin preying on the indulgent upper class to correct injustices under the sheriff.
It’s going to be interesting to see the response to this in a theater, because the moody beginning of the trailer looks more like a epic fantasy battle is brewing than a story about a man stealing from rich folks. These sure ain’t no merry men… silly me for thinking that a Robin Hood movie wouldn’t be so dark, I suppose.

I'm a big Ridley Scott fan, and apologist, so just anything he makes is a guaranteed watch for me.
I don't love all of Scott's films, but he has earned the benefit of the doubt. And I think in the current climate, a film about a guy stealing from the rich to give to the poor might just connect.
ALL of the Hollywood action movies are too dark these days. I think that's why Spiderman and Iron Man are such huge, popular successes, and Superman failed and people hated it – color! Fun!
Spiderman's costume is RED. Iron Man had bright colors, and contrasted nicely to the lack of color in the village he rescues. Superman is supposed to be RED and BLUE, but instead we got Maroon and Dark Blue, along with a depressing, screwed up character and story. Only ONE uplifting moment, the shuttle rescue. Spiderman and Iron Man offered multiple "hooray" moments.
I'm jazzed for Clash of the Titans, I love mythology. I like that director, I love the actors, unlike in his last movie, The Incredible Hulk, and the story and script look far better than the original Clash of the Titans. But man, where is the COLOR?!! It's almost a black and white film. Or black and blue, or black and orange film. Roger Ebert hated Gladiator because there was no color in Ridley Scott's Rome, which was full of color in real life. Now I see what he was talking about.
And along with the washed out colors of new movies, the fun has been washed out as well, replaced with too much seriousness and not enough joy. Thank God the new Star Trek realized this and laid in the fun.
Hmm, well that's pretty much exactly what I expected from that teaser. This project was far more interesting when it was potray Robin as the villain and the Sheriff as the hero. Is there any of that element left in this?
It really does feel like Nathan Explosion has taken over the movie industry. Every has to be dark, gritty and "brutal, totally brutal."
Um, Dale? "The Dark Knight", if memory serves, was rather dark.
I wonder is anyone even realizes that Maid Marion was never in the book? So this is really based on the Errol Flynn movie and not the original novel.
