The latest Hobbit fan wank that’s been making the rounds is that Tobey Maguire was in talks to possibly maybe perhaps portray Bilbo. The wellspring of this is a piece in Latino Review from yesterday. However, Maguire today over at THR.com stated for the record that that simply isn’t the case. “I have not met with [Guillermo] del Toro. We don’t have any near future plans,”
Maguire said. “I don’t know if something got misconstrued or
miscommunicated but the source was not accurate at all.”
The article also mentioned that Maguire had heard previously that James McAvoy had been cast and wasn’t even considering the lead role (Peter Jackson has since also dispelled that rumor as well). So despite a few records being set straight, does that mean that Maguire being in The Hobbit could never happen? Well, Maguire elaborated that “I love Guillermo del Toro and Peter Jackson, and I certainly wouldn’t
take myself out of the conversation … if I was part of it. But I
haven’t read a script or talked to anybody about it.”
So there you have it, straight from the spider’s mouth.

Wally, Tom Hollander is freakin' brilliant casting. The guy was great in the otherwise disappointing Pirates sequels and hilarious in In The Loop.
Bilbo and Frodo were both 50 when they left Bag End for their own adventures. I guess hobbits look like teen heartthrobs until they violently succumb to frumpishness. (See Also: Japanese women)
Add my vote is for the great Tom Hollander. I'm not ashamed to admit that I love the 2005 Pride & Prejudice and a big reason for that is him. Also, his cameo in John Adams: awesome.
I still think Martin Freeman would be a great choice. He can be charming and sweet, and serious when he wants to, which is just perfect for a hobbit, IMO.
Any movie is better with Morgan Freeman in it. Why not have a black Bilbo?

I mean, love or hate them, but having an McDiarmid return after 20 years to reprise his role as SENATOR Palpatine was beyond awesome…if only the scripts were deeper and more spiritual like Empire.
I felt that disconnect during The Dark Knight – totally different actresses for Rachel. When she gets blown to bits, I'm like "Who cares?! She doesn't even LOOK like the girl Bruce fell in love with all those years ago!"
You guys all know who it's going to be and who you want it to be in your heart of hearts – Taylor Lautner, hands down. Just think of the possibilities – Bilbo spends most of the movie shirtless receiving oil rub downs from Gandalf….
Tom Hollander would be inspired casting – just saw him in the series finale of the Thick of It as 'The Fucker'. It's only a small step to go to 'The Hobbit'. In what Universe would David fucking Tennant be a good Bilbo though?

For those of you who care the one ring dot net is still where you can go for authentic news. Andy Serkis will play at least one roll and I would personally be very surprised if Doug Jones has no rolls in these things.
Hugo Weaving and Kate Blanchet are eternal elves or something and could have been in it, but they aren't relevant to the story and aren't coming back. So, what you know today is that Gandlaf and Gollum are locked in and everything else is up for grabs this week as casting continues. Bilbo's casting is of coarse central to the book and despite this rumor the lead is yet to be cast. I'm not really sure what cattle call they are up to in LA-London, but I really hope they are looking at the amazing talent of one Bruce Campbell, whos casting would signal a true beckon of hope and warm feeling in the bellys of geeks worldwide. I kinda wish Viggo Mortensen had a place in this story maybe segment 2 perhaps. If you are still asking why. you should totally go see The Road, it's pretty awesome. You goota love LOTR but I still wish GDT next one was H.P. Lovecraft's Mountain of Madness project long speculated, seemingly never coming.
I think Mcavoy is brilliant casting. They won't have to use any CGI to make him seem hobbit size since the dude is already 3 foot tall.
NO yanks as hobbits! Tom Hollander is a good suggestion, McAvoy, Stephen Graham, or maybe even Simon Pegg might work as Bilbo too. And some hulking swarthy giant for Beorn!

No idea why someone said Hugo Weaving won't be coming back, Elrond features fairly heavily in a few scenes of the Hobbit.
