Michael Cera’s become something of an institution, hasn’t he? He’s sneaky, appearing in a lot of films and firmly latching onto the cerebral cortex of the brightest and more interesting of the young people out there, and surely his work in Scott Pilgrim will deliver a concussive blast to those not yet in his sway.
Youth in Revolt is his latest, an adaptation of the popular quirky book by C.D. Payne about a young man who goes to embarrassing and unfortunate lengths to win the girl of his dreams. Ray Liotta, Zach Galifanakis, Jean Smart, Justin Long, Steve Buscemi, and M. EMMET WALSH are but a few of the folks who turn up in the film. Check out the trailer:

not convinced he's a different kind of actor.. he's been one-note his whole career, with slight outbursts but always settling into his awkward constant-questioning self.. this movie is just another attempt to make fun of himself.. again..
Jesse Eisenberg does Michael Cera's schtick better than Michael Cera. And he's more talented and less annoying.

I saw this a few weeks back in Gainesville, FL and I gotta say, Michael Cera's alter ego was wonderful proof that he CAN in fact play something other than "Michael Cera". The whole film was pretty great, frankly.
Has anyone else noticed that Zach Galifinakis is getting billed in a number of films where he's only spending 5 minutes on screen? This and "Up In the Air" both. What a wondrous thing a surprise hit film can do to your marketability. 😛

The whole appeal of Michael Cera baffles me. I am a 40 year old man, so I am obviously not the target demographic. If I were to watch one of his movies with my sons, I would definately make sure to let them know that this is not to be taken seriously, any man that behaves like this kid would get destroyed by life. I think some people really like the idea of a weak and submissive male, and those are the people who celebrate Cera and Eisenberg both.
#5: I totally agree. He actually ruined Zombieland for me because i kept wanting to slap him and yell at him :"YOU CAN BE A MAN!" don corleone style.
Although I like Cera, I have been lamenting the lack of a scotch drinking/ woman laying/ badass male character in films lately. Whatever happened to Connery's bond, or Mad Max, or a Lee Marvin type?
What happened to Lee Marvin? He became Adam Baldwin!
