I don’t know how it did it, but the web based genie at Akinator.com guessed that I was thinking about Boo Radley in 20 questions, despite never asking a question that I thought was all that relevant to the character at hand. I was impressed.
Akinator came to my attention thanks to the good folks at the new site GeekWeek.com, and I have spent some time trying to stump that genie. I actually did get him – he couldn’t guess Caesar from Conquest of the Planet of the Apes, but his wrong answer was Cornelius, so that’s pretty damn close. It got RJ McReady in a handful of questions, none of which seemed particularly germane. I’m sure there’s a basic information sciences answer to how this is so good, but I prefer to subscribe to the theory of magic.

He pulled RP MacMurphy out after 25 questions. But first he thought it was the Morgan Freeman character in Shawshank.
I just beat him using the Marvel character Whiplash, "this is a new character to me". However, he did guess my first try correctly in 7 questions, "Veronica Mars".

I stumped it with Laurie Strode. Pretty neat, though. It figured out Lo Pan pretty quickly.
I thought of Christopher Johnson and it guessed almost right away. Though, as soon as it asked if the character had any kids I knew it was going to get it right, he was a pretty well defined character.
I had Uwe Boll, it guessed Terri Schiavo.
I had Wilf from Doctor Who and it got it right away. Then my girlfriend tried Kimmy Gibler from Full House and that sucker got it off of some very suspect answers from the lady. Incredible.

It didn't get Marv from Sin City. Instead he guessed Marcus from Terminator Salvation.
Couldn't guess Shadowcat from X-Men, though it did guess Catwoman. This type of thing (a 20 questions program) actually isn't that hard to make, and I've seen them before.
It guessed both Yossarian and Shaun of the Dead…pretty nifty
I defeated it with "The Weird" character from The Good, The Bad, The Weird. Although, to be fair, its first guess was "The Good" character from that film, so it's still pretty impressive.
I was thinking of Material Defender, from descent, and within the first 5 guesses it went to video games. The character itself's more obscure (not really central to the game), so it guessed some others first… got him eventually.
Beat it with a bunch of characters from Gravity's Rainbow, Andrei Tarkovsky, etc.
Guessed Charles Widmore after wrongly guessing Lionel Luther, then got Nick Angel from Hot Fuzz first time.

The genie got stumped on Robert Ryan, which is understandable, he's been underrated for about 70 years now.
He got Marge Gunderson, Frozone, John Bender (judd nelson from breakfast club), disco stu and charlie pace (lost). 5/5 so far
he didn't even seem like he was on the right track with some of them.

i got him with Danny DeVito somehow (he guessed the Fonz!) he also could not get a mildly famous fantasy author Steven Erikson -guessed Santa Claus! after a string of truly stupid questions, mainly a list of countries around the world.. still impressive overall..

It took 27 questions to get to the Winter Soldier/pre-Cap version of Bucky Barnes. It DID ask about 15 questions in if the character used a shield, so he was on the right track. My roommate stumped it with Karen Page, Daredevil's secretary/former girlfriend

It guessed Rorschach in less than 15 questions but couldn't guess Frank Black (from the 'Millennium' tv series) in more than 30 questions. It's pretty good though — I tried for about 12 characters, and it guessed 10 right
