Nobody knows anything in Hollywood, as the saying goes. Marketing people know even less. It’s why so many trailers suck. This worried me greatly when considering the green band trailer for Kick-Ass, a movie I love without reservation (my review), especially because all the best bits are so very, very red band. But the new green band trailer for the film essentially works, even with some serious missteps (the scene with Kick-Ass and Red Mist bouncing their heads in the car is good in context but looks like a shitty SNL skit in the trailer). The film will play at SXSW this year, so expect lots of gushing praise around that time.

Red Mist and Kick ASS in the car was hysterical. This film may not make the numbers at the Box Office buts its warmed its way into my cough… I want this film and I want it NOW.

I'm sure I'll enjoy this movie, but why does a film who's main conceit is that these people have NO powers, promptly show them doing wire kung fu all over the place? Watchmen made the same mistake.
From the trailers and clips i've seen, Hitgirl to me comes out as annoying and unfunny, kinda like a granny trying to rap is annoying and unfunny. She might work in the context of the film just fine so I'll have to wait and see. The rest looks good though and I trust Vaughn will deliver like usual.
Hey, so what happened with the disappearance of Red Band trailers from theaters after they were all the rage in summer '08? I work at a theater, and I remember how it was a big year for adult comedies, so they were all over the place, but then the red band trailers just went away again and haven't really been seen since. Any explanation for this? Were the studio websites getting fewer hits? Was there a backlash because some of the better stuff WAS getting wasted in the trailers now? I remember the reactions people had to the "Pineapple Express" trailer when it ran in the theater, like they were amazed that the trailer had swearing, etc., but then the people seeing it were already there to see "Stepbrothers" or some other R-Rated comedy. Jackasses…
Good trailer. Nice use of The Hives. Also, Atomic Comics is a local chain here in the Phoenix area; the CCO is a professor of mine. Wonder how they landed exposure in the film.

I'm not getting this. I also thought Watchmen was pretty terrible. Is this another one of those products geared toward geeks that we're all supposed to love but when someone points out that its actually kinda shitty they get flamed? Cuz that's what this smells like to me. If Devin didn't see this at Butt numb a thon before all the other geeks in the U.S. got to (at 3 AM and drunk no doubt) he'd be hatin'. Just saying. Plus anyone who loved Watchmen as much as he did might be just the demographic for this flick.
I have to agree with somejerkoff and Kitkuttaja. The exaggerated fights for 'normal people' turned me off in Watchman and confused several people I know who weren't familiar with the source material. After they found out none of them had powers, it really soured the movie (even more) for them. And just like the red-band trailer, Hit-Girl is the weakest part. I know Devin loved the character, and I'm willing to remain open until I see it all in context, but she just comes off forced and fake every time. With less focus on Hit-Girl than in the last trailer, this one has me more excited for the film.
