According to Deadline Hollywood, Tom Hanks is getting back into the director’s chair. The last time he directed he made the very delightful That Thing You Do!, but it’s been a long, long time since then. His new directing gig is a film he wrote called Larry Crowne, and he’ll be reuniting with his Charlie Wilson’s War* co-star, Julia Roberts in it.
Says Michael Fleming at Deadline: I’m told that Hanks will play the title character, a man forced to reinvent himself and find a new career as he navigates the second act of his life.
It’s a comedy. Romantic, I’m sure. Larry Crowne films in April.
* This is a really underrated good little movie.

Julia Roberts is one of those actors who turns any movie into an immediate DO NOT SEE for me.

yea he did a Bands of Brothers episode. Not exactly a feature length film but damn close.
He directed the pilot for the HBO show From Earth to the Moon, which, I think, was the most delicate episode of the series in terms of getting it just right and covering a hell of a lot of ground.
This excites me. Charlie Wilson's War was a very good movie and I like the combo of Julia and Tom.
Also That Thing You Do is fantastic. It's paced just right, has great music, is cast perfectly and is funny throughout. Tom Hanks as the director of a movie he wrote makes me super ridiculously happy.
And Tom Hanks directs episode 5 of Band of Brothers – it's called Crossroads. It's right in the middle of the series and is possibly the most "important" episodes of the series and it is just really good television that Tom directs very well – watch Band of Brothers if you have not already.
I would love if Tom would star in a gay Rom Com with Nick Nunziata!
