When Netflix saw the breadth of its domain, it wept for there were no more worlds to conquer.
That’s right, Netflix is coming to the Wii, and the trifecta is now complete. Sorry, Roku owners- that was a waste of 200 bucks, wasn’t it?
Wii owners can now order a disc that they’ll have to put in their system to access their movies, much like the PS3 version that I’ve been using more often than my 360 (Know why? Cause my PS3 doesn’t sound like a goddamn turbine engine.) The service will start up this Spring.
“Our goal is to offer Netflix members as many ways as possible to
watch movies and TV episodes streamed from Netflix right to their TVs
and to give non-members more and compelling reasons to consider the
service,” said Netflix co-founder and CEO Reed Hastings. “Joining
forces with Nintendo, which has been so immensely popular with
consumers since its introduction, is a very meaningful step in that
direction.”
Finally, a reason to use the Wii! Nine bucks a month for thousands and thousands of movies on a system that you likely already own. Netflix has taken over the world and movie fans should be happy about it.

Does Wii support Amazon On Demand? That's something that the Roku still has going for it.
Wii is still for soccer mom's and stupid children. Or me when I'm really high.
My old Xbox made noise, but the one I have now is completely quiet. Your jab at the Xbox noise issue is about a year too late methinks, if not more.
It's very nice that you got a quieter one, David, but my refurbished one came back from Microsoft just as loud, and is only getting worse. Probably be on my third one soon.
PlayOn (transcodes Hulu/youtube/numerous other streaming sites to your XBOX/PS3/Wii over your computers network) with XBOX is still my favorite, even if my wireless drops the connection sometimes.. the choices for 'watch it now' get old very fast with Netflix.. some decent TV choices but not a revelation in media just yet.. need to combine PlayOn/the networks/Netflix new and old releases on 'watch it now' for the next leap.. so close!
I purchased my X-box 360 in October of 2008, and it's really noisy. Is there a newer set out there that won't make so much noise?

Yeah, I gotta say there's a lot more to the roku than just Netflix. We got one for Christmas and love it – in fact on many a day its running our Pandora stations non-stop. Plus we've started watching our home-movies (easy and in HD) on Montionbox, plus we stroll through the internet channel selections (occassionally – nothing has really grabbed us there yet). How long till we get all of this in one package at purchase? (I can hear my "Old Fart" speech now – "back in my day we had one box for games, one for the inter-nets and one for movies – that came in the mail on a disc thingie if you can believe that ya wippersnappers you! Now get off a my lawn!"
#7 – not when you can get a streaming bluray for only $20 more. But about the Wii – it can't do HD, can it?
I only use WiFi (not cable, don't like dealing with the coaxholes at the cable company) so streaming is a tedious process. Anyway I still like getting actual disks in the mail. I know, physical media is SO 'oughties, but what the hell.
