I haven’t even seen Ong Bak 2 – the movie that drove Tony Jaa insane!!!! – and there’s already an Ong Bak 3 teaser trailer. Now I guess I better get serious about tracking down the semi-sequel to Jaa’s groundbreaking original muy thai classic.
This new movie looks to be a direct sequel to Ong Bak 2 (if you’ll remember Ong Bak took place in the modern day), so there’s probably going to be continuity. But since continuity doesn’t seem to be the biggest concern during Thai movies, I’m not sure it’ll be all that vital in between them.
The teaser, courtesy of Twitchfilm, just says 2010. No clue on what that might mean for a (legal) stateside release.

Maybe Tony Jaa should just make trailers. They always ROCK! The movies, not so dependable.
Spoiler: Part 2 ends on a cliff hanger because Tony Jaa does not have sufficient good karma to win. And the narrator asks us all to believe in him so that he can return. Fade to black. Ridiculous. Though the movie still does have an orphan fighting a crocodile, and being thailand, it's probably a real orphan and a real crocodile, so that's something. Something awesome.
I've had a copy for several months of Ong Bak 2 this looks like a direct sequel to it. 2 had weird pacing and the story jumped around but I thought some of the fight sequences were amazing. And it had Ninja or Ninja like people.

Best way to watch the Ong Bak movies are in Thai with no English captions. That way you don't have to worry about things like plot and can focus on the important stuff like Tony Jaa kneeing people in the head.
The best way to watch the ong bak films is to fling the dvds in the garbage and watch some bruce lee or Jackie chan films. No elephant molestation in those films either.
Ong Bak 2 was suppose to be one movie, hence the abrubt ending, the Martial arts in it is awesome, total throwback to the oldschool Shaw Brother flicks, Jaa pulls off a full fucking on Bruce Lee and then some. Jaa's characters seem to be tied to the statue Ong Bak, Buddist reincarnation being my guess to the continuity.
Thank you, Devin. For at least pretending to be interested in a movie that doesn't have a foul-mouthed 10 year old girl flipping through the air whilst systematically slaughtering a room full of bad guys. It's not such a bad thing to have some interest in a movie that tries to base the fight scenes in reality. You just took your first step to being a better person.
I guess the foley guy was off sick the day they made this trailer?
