People have been clamoring for a new Twisted Metal title, and while it was revealed that the series would be coming to the PS3 two years ago there’s been no real news since. While outspoken director David Jaffe (he of God of War, internet wars, and that embarrassing The Tester reality show) has been hinting at it here and there, he dropped another bomb at the AIAS Interactive Achievement Awards ceremony last night.
According to 1UP, someone in the crowd yelled out a question about Twisted Metal. Jaffe responded in his usual classy fashion “Soon, bitch — eight or nine months”
Of course, people are now questioning whether that means we’ll see an announcement or a release in that time. A new Twisted Metal would make a helluva holiday title for Sony…

You can liken Twisted Metal to the Terminator franchise: everyone remembers the second one and thinks it's the first, and they all wish the sequels never happened.
And what about Twisted Metal Black? That was the best one, actually.
No, it wasn't.
Yes, it was
Twisted Metal Black was definitely the best of the bunch, with Twisted Metal 2 a very close second. Sure, a lot of people hate TMB because of the drab to the point of non-existent color palette (similar to the criticisms leveled against the Fallout series), and some of the level maps aren't exactly inspired, but the play control was seriously tight and it made playing just ridiculously fun.
Perhaps the single flaw to Twisted Metal Black was the fact that nearly all the weapons were equally nerfed, and the majority of vehicles were made equally tough. In TM2, there were a handful of truly weak cars that you could snuff with the greatest of ease – especially if you were playing as Thumper and you iced them and then drilled them with that massive flame dong of his. Going up against Spectre and Twister and the little dune buggy whose name escapes me at the moment, you could torch all three of them in a heartbeat. But in TMB, it was almost a chore to eliminate even the least armored of the cast. You could pump an entire arsenal of both special and pick-up weapons into them and they were still only half dead. Sure, it made the game last longer, but it was definitely less enjoyable at times because of that.
Still, I much preferred the handling on TMB. Best of all the Twisted Metal games, hands down.
For sure Twisted Metal Black was the best. Also the toughest. I agree that weapons were waaay toned down in TMB, but you got used to it. And yo, this David Jaffe douche…does he always talk to people like that? He needs to get popped in the nose.
TMB was great, but I was introduced to the series with 2. In our dorms we'd randomly pick two cars and play it co-op with only the super napalm cheat. Awesome feeling when you beat it with a combo of cars like Twister and Grasshopper.
TMB was one the games that got me to buy a PS2 and it got played so much that my friends and I wore it out and had to buy a new one.
The only thing that dissapointed me was the musical score. TM2 had a good mix of Rock n' Roll and Heavy Metal. TMB was all moody and ambient orchestration.
The dark and drab tone of the game screamed for a death metal soundtrack.
