As Green Lantern gestates down (well, over for me) in NOLA, we are continuing to hear news and confirmations regarding various cast members. Last it was Tim Robbins joining the film as Peter Sarsgaard’s father, and now it’s word that Mark Strong will indeed be playing Sinestro in whatever form he’s taking in this first film.
The news comes via Twitter, from newly appointed Chief Creative Officer for DC Entertainment Geoff Johns. He also had (unsurprisingly) shining praise for the rest of the cast and the designs of the film.
“Back from an amazing trip to Green Lantern town a.k.a. New Orleans!! Ryan IS Hal. And Mark Strong is going to be a brilliant Sinestro.”
“Kilowog, the Guardians, Oa…all breathtaking. The age of Green Lantern is upon us!!”
Gong back to the newly cast Mark Strong, it must be noted how fantastic a couple of years he’s had –and he shows no signs of slowing down. Sherlock Holmes and The Young Victoria are his latest releases with Kick-Ass and Robin Hood arriving soon. Green Lantern will join John Carter of Mars on his list of longer term projects.
It shouldn’t be that long before we start seeing some legit images from Green Lantern, so keep your eyes peeled.

Let's not forget Mark Strong's insane performance in "Stardust." I'm not joking. He made that movie awesome, and his post-mortem fight scene was the best physical acting I've seen in years.

Not only is Green Lantern the lamest super hero ever with his faggy magic ring but it sounds like he has the lamest super villians ever. Really, Sinestro? Was Evilstro already taken? How bout Villianstro? They should scrap this POS now and try and walk away with some dignity.

Aside from Sinestro, any word on casting for the alien GLs? Like Abin Sur, Tomar Re, Salaak, or Kilowog? Most, esp. the last two, will be CGI so the voice is more important. My pick for Kil — John Goodman. Just imagine him yelling "Poozer!"
hey Chudfan, I would've totally agreed with you until I read the last 5 years of Green Lantern history (Every GL title and series since Rebirth)…and the Characters got some epic fucking story behind it. Also as far as "Sinestro" as a name is concerned…come on this is the in the same world where they call people MAGNETO, the HULK, and WOLVERINE instead of Metal bending guy, big fucking green dude!!!! (Exclamation points are necessary) and Danny Devito with head hair and claws.
Peter is Stellan's son along with the vampire sheriff Eric in True Blood (now there's 2 brothers who look nothing alike). Definitely Goodman for Kilowog's voice (I'm thinking Walter from Lebowski – but hopefully slightly unrecognisable as him). Wasn't Jackie Earle Haley scheduled for Sinestro at one point?? or was that just fan casting?? AS someone whose wedding ring is a power ring, bring it on. I'm hopeful that Reynolds delivers, still would prefer him playing Wally West – **perfect** casting
Ryan Reynolds? Again? Does this guy want to be in every one of these movies? The guy cant act, period. He will kill this movie. Has he ever been in one movie where he actually contributed something meaningful to it? He should change his last name to Hoover because he sucks so much.
