Now that Emma Watson is of age, who will be the next celebrity young girl who will be a creepy fixation for grown men and inspire her own ‘Countdown to Age of Consent’ website, like the Olsen Twins had? It could be Hailee Steinfeld, the young girl the Coen Bros have cast in the lead of their new version of True Grit.
Steinfeld will be playing the role of a 14 year old girl who teams up with an aging gunslinger (Jeff Bridges) to find her father’s killer. In the original the girl was played by Kim Darby, who probably was never going to get an Age of Consent site in her honor, even if she was born in the internet age.
Steinfeld is more or less a newcomer. She’ll be heading to New Mexico next month to start shooting the film, which is more faithful to the original novel by Charles Portis and comes at the story from the girl’s point of view. True Grit hits on Christmas.

So, the Coen are going for four movies in four years then? These guys are absolutely unbelievable. NO COUNTRY…, BURN AFTER READING, A SERIOUS MAN, and now this. Anyone who says that all the greats are dead isn't paying attention.

Yeah… Miller's Crossing and The Hudsucker Proxy were just so awful and so so hated by fans… why would they remake something again?
Miller's Crossing and Hudsucker Proxy are original works last time I checked. The Coens have only remade one film to this point, and no, it wasn't their best.
#6 Ah, just so you know Millers Crossing and Hudsucker are original scripts written by the Coen brothers. For them to be remakes, they would have to be, you know, remakes of a previous film…And yeah, the one remake they have done was their absolutely worst movie, so I'd say statistically, they don't mix.
The book is a lot darker then the previous film. The Coens have said they are sticking really close to the source material.

I remember the original as a fun, old school western, but one dominated by the Duke's personality and presence. It'll be interesting to see if this ends up a more nuanced tale. What are the thematic elements of the book? Also, Bridges is bottled awsome, so that's a very good start.
Man, I'll see it, but I don't know. I'm reading the book right now, and while Jeff Bridges is awesome, I can't help but read the dialogue with John Wayne's voice in my head. It'll be hard to overcome that personality.
Ahem. This is the Coens doing a more faithful take on a gritty book than its predecessor, and it stars Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon and Josh Brolin. And it's a Western. Can I get a ticket for this now? And as for the Coens not mixing with remakes, they've done one–ONE–remake, and you're going to dismiss this project on that alone? I'm sorry, but please shut the fuck up.
Sounds like this is more of an adaptation of the book than a remake of the movie. Seems to me that that means it has more in common with No Country for Old Men.
