I know this is not related to "The Karate Kid", Dev… but what the hell is going on with all the rumors that the "Captain America" movie has be postponed and Johnston has been let go as director?

The Karate Kid was a childhood favorite, but it wasn't a masterpiece by any stretch. Now I mainly love it for "The Best Around" montage.

I think this looks surprisingly…good? As long as they don't feel they need to dumb it down, I think I will watch it curiously.

I KNOW it's not the first "meta-remake"…I just can't for the life of me think of another one I've seen. But I totally have seen one….

The trailer is definitely well put-together but the mom and mini-Will deliver their lines like they're in a high school play. Still… might be fun to take the kids to.

Well you could count Sleepless in Seattle, but it's only sort of a remake.

I think the BEWITCHED movie would count as a meta-remake. Or possibly SWAT (they did have a scene where the characters sang the old theme song from the TV show after all).

Err… Wow. I mean the bullies mocking name referencing the original and hence the title actually makes sense. Did not see that coming. Now instead of a retread that inserts Jackie you have a movie that respects the source and the culture of the setting. "Your focus needs more focus"- awesome. And props to Jaden for those training moves that CAN'T be easy…

Good to see Jackie playing his age. Very smart to diffuse the Karate/Kung Fu thing right up front. Kids will probably love the shit out of this.

Meta-remake? How about "Scrooged"? They're making "A Christmas Carol" while the main character is LIVING "A Christmas Carol."

Props to this trailer for putting "You're the Best" in a small cameo!

It's also not a bad film by any stretch. Hell, even Roger Ebert named it one of the best films of it's year in his 4 star review.

Did Jackie Chan beat up those bully kids? Also, I think the bullies weren't referencing the Ralph Maccio movies…I think it was meant, like, if Little Will was on a motorbike, they probably would have said "motorcycle boy."

If the flick's any good, it will be because of a strong performance by Jackie Chan. The man is a bona-fide god of cinema

Jackie and Sly are starting to look quite similar, though I imagine Mr. Chan has spent less money on his face.

God, it's so nice to see Chan in a western role that doesn't have him tripping over giggling kids to wear a special jacket that relies on his accent to sell a joke.

Nope, still looks like absolute crap. There are people out there actually defending this? Please, I'd rather see a meta-reboot-prequel to THE NEXT KARATE KID.

The craziest Meta-remake I can think of would be Wes Craven' New Nightmare.

trailer looks good and old rumour had it that the movie was testing through the roof. So maybe there`s something to it that starts to meet the eye. Who knew?

Damn, I was going to say "New Nightmare" as well. And not that it's the same thing really, but I liked the movie within a movie element of the Scream sequels.

Yeah it does look pretty good and a completely standalone movie that really doesn't copy the orignal all that much…

Response to comment #1: One can only hope that Joe Johnston was let go and the project on hold cause the rumored storyline involving Steve Rogers and the whole USO crap doesn't sound like something We the fans really give a crap about, plus as much as I enjoy The OFFICE, I just don't see Jim as Captain America…

I was completely underwhelmed – can't really see how anyone could get excited for that? Jackie Chan looked alright but that kid looked like a kid trying to act – say what you like about Ralph Machio or whatever his name was but he had quite a lot of charisma.

If this movie is any good, it's going to be because of Jackie Chan's character. The 1984 Karate Kid worked because of the interplay between the characters, mainly Mr. Miyagi and Daniel (Miyagi as Daniel's surrogate father and all that) – and the fact that Daniel-san was in high school, so a grown man kicking the asses of bullies was quite a bit more believable and acceptable. While I think this trailer is awesome, the fact that they cast an 11 year-old in the main role worries me big time. Whenever directors try to cast a little kid in a main role they almost always blow it (Short Round was the only one that really worked for me and I know many people who would disagree with me on that); think Edward Furlong in T2, Brendan Fraser's kid in the second Mummy movie and (shudder) Jake Lloyd in Episode I. Jaden Smith seems like a decent child actor, but I'm afraid that his character will end up ruining the movie by being irritating and annoying, just like every other Hollywood "kid-character". I really hope I'm wrong.

The Karate Kid reference could have been from the first movie(s), because the idea that # 11 stated would have lead to them, more than likely calling him the "Kung Fu Kid" since this takes place in China, not Japan.
Oh, # 19, I bet you wouldn't use the terms "spook" in Jaden's dad's face, or Chink in Jackie's face, but rather just behind your keyboard, or hidden behind your white hood.

The trailer looks great and I will definitely pay to see it. I think there is a possiblity this might be better than the original. The whole world will be watching Jaden Smith performance and I think his parents had helped him to put a 100% into it. This movie will be either make him a star and just another child actor.
