This Sunday CHUD is hitting the Oscars in a big way. Nick will be doing a live commentary on the podcast, while I’ll be doing old fashioned live text blogging on the site – yes, you can have us make fun of the Oscars in multiple ways! Possibly at once!
But one thing we won’t be making fun of is a Ben Stiller/Sacha Baron Cohen skit that pokes fun at Avatar and James Cameron. The reason? According to Vulture the Oscar producers think that Cameron is so thin-skinned he could literally walk out of the ceremony. What’s so offensive?
Our insider informs us that Baron Cohen planned to appear onstage as a blue-skinned, female Na’vi, with Stiller translating “her” interplanetary speech. As the skit went on, though, it would become clear that Stiller wasn’t translating properly, because Cohen would grow ever more upset. At its climax, an infuriated Baron Cohen would pull open “her” evening gown to reveal that s/he was pregnant, knocked up with Cameron’s love child, and would go on to confront her baby daddy as if s/he were on Jerry Springer.
What’s nutty is that this doesn’t even sound all that offensive. But then again, I guess when you’re a director with a habit of sleeping with your leading ladies, this is a joke that hits close to home.

This sounds more like they cut it because it wasn't funny but tried to make it sound less embarrassing by pretending to be afraid to offend. That picture is hot, by the way.
That does sound funny, but it's slightly possible it could have been cut for being poorly written.
Possible, but not likely considering the talent involved.
Um, Cameron has slept with a fellow director (Kathryn Bigelow), a producer (Gale Anne Hurd), and Suzy Amis and Linda Hamilton. I think he's got a thick enough skin to take some jokes. Plus, he did that MTV movie awards thing with Stiller some years back so Stiller likely could have just run this by Cameron before to see if it's ok. And again, Cameron can take it. Any SOB who can reduce Ed Harris to tears can take anything IMHO.
Cameron was also in a lasercats sketch and let himself be thrown out of an office by Lorne Michaels of all people. The only reason to dislike this sketch is that it isn't funny and it would've required him to be a good sport with Cohen's embarrassing bullshit.
Sounds like we've all been spared a half-assed stab at a cheap laugh.
Oh boy, the witty CHUD people are going to make fun of things!
That doesn't sound offensive. It just sounds terrible. Also terrible: what Devin has turned this website into. An endless stream of anti-Cameron tantrums that no one wants to hear.
That sounds like two funny dudes with a lot of potential were about to seriously fall short of that potential. And Jonesy #3, what you don't realise is that when Cameron made Ed Harris cry it was because Harris had come into his trailer wearing a fake pregancy tummy. The Oscar producers must have just learned that too and pulled the skit out of pure terror. One thing Cameron isn't known for is his sense of humor, just look at his movies.
Oscar humor is always awkward. Keep that shite for the Mtv awards. Then again…I haven't watched the oscars since that baby boomer wank fest Forrest Gump won, so what do I care?
Shut the fuck up Devin. Your one to talk, how many of my comments have you taken down due to your thin skin? Also, to just ASSUME that is the reason they are not doing the skit, and not becasue it doesn't sound at all funny, is again, a prime example of how pathetic your jealousy is towards mr Cameron. You know, that mulit billion dollar director that only knows how to make hit movies, while you sit in your basement apartment, wishing you were more then a fat internet geek that can't get a date.
Man, does Devin get some sort of pleasure about jumping to conclusions whenever he sees an opportunity to engage in Cameron-bashing? Perhaps it was cut because the skit itself sounds unfunny? Oh, nope! It has to be for some reason that makes Cameron look bad, right Dev?
Plus, it's understandable if Cameron doesn't have the time on such a big night to be harassed by Cohen.
"I guess when you're a director with a habit of sleeping with your leading ladies"
Stay classy, Devin.
Truth is, Cameron has taken plenty of jabs at himself before, as other users have pointed out. This is a guy who suffered through poisoning during the making of Titanic with humor, so I won't question how tough his skin is. It's not his fault if the producers assume otherwise.
I hate to agree with the haters, but this <i>doesn't</i> sound very funny.
I love how rampant speculation is considered 'journalism' (as much referring to Vulture as anything else). I suppose it's too much to expect internet movie 'tabloids' to grow a sense of ethics. Not to mention the skit didn't really sound funny at all.
Yeah, Cameron's got a giant cushion under his ego right now and has demonstrated that. He's matured. This sounds ghastly. Good to hear it's out.
Devin, this is getting too predictable and embarrassing. You're to Avatar and Cameron what Fox News is to Obama. You'll find any story, any angle, to persist in your nagging, "contrarian" trolling. You're a pretty good writer. Don't waste your ability on shit like this.
I have to say Devin that this premise is not funny at all. I'm glad they axed it. I think it's time for you to find a new crusade.
"This Sunday CHUD is hitting the Oscars in a big way"
YEP, YOU'RE GAY!
I wish James Cameron would die.
Yea, a dead Cameron is a good one. Stiller isn't funny, at all. The Cohen thing was funny for Ali G, then not anymore.
Wow, I mean, you don't even attempt to hide how pathetic this vendetta is. An article blasting Cameron based solely on a reaction some random gossip site claims some other people think Cameron *might* have at some possible future point in time? I am asking this seriously; when you read this item on Vulture, did you actually feel some sort of sense of satisfaction? Some sense that yes, Cameron just proved conclusively that he deserves your dislike? This is some bizarre shit, an embarrassing window into the psyche of someone who's truly (and entertainingly publicly) damaged.
I love you Avatards. Devin fucking plays you like a fiddle. Of course if you weren't so easily manipulated you wouldn't have falenl so hard for Avatar's mediocrity, either.
@ 65.605 devin`s too fat to play fiddle, he can`t hold his arms up long enough to learn a tune. plus hes tone deaf. time he do have, lonely bastard.
turn that into what ever.
Wow. That sounds…really lame. I'm thankful they're removing that. Sounds like "Cameron's thin skin" might be the smear campaign. I bet even Bruce Vilanch thought that was stupid, and he helped write the Star Wars Holiday Special.
I wish James Cameron would die…also this talkback.
It's hard to not feed the troll when he's writing the articles. wtf.
Devin, in pursuit for trolling numbers, you actually missed real Oscar news. Producer of "The Hurt Locker" is banned from the Oscars for personally campaigning for the film: http://mobile.hollywoodreporter.com//device/article.php?mid=10&CALL_URL=http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/news/e3ibe85493aa8b413307893d558b359a892
Might want to actually cover the movie industry.
This "skit" sounds like one of those stupid, not funny to anyone except the fucknuts who wrote it, everyone looks around and smiles, skits that have clogged awards shows for decades. I doubt Cameron would give a shit either way, and that's based on him spoofing himself and his famous temper on Entourage a few years back. And anyone who just types "I wish james Cameron would die" and hits enter is a complete inbred jerkoff. Why the fuck would you say that? Do you think it makes you sound hip? Do you think it makes you sound like a too cool for the room film buff? It doesn't. It makes you sound like what most of hollywood already assumes you are: A whiney, fatass, bitter cocksucker who is so jealous of somebody elses success that they revert to being an 8 year old who screams at their Mommy "I hate you!" because she won't buy you that new comic book you want so bad. Jesus Christ, at least Devin gets paid to hate Cameron. What's your excuse? And by the way, calling people Avatards? Ooooh, that's clever. You should be a stand up with that biting wit. And if your retort involves the words "fuck" and "you", then save it, I don't think I can stand anymore of that blistering sarcasm today.
Am I the only person on earth who has not seen Avatar, knows not a single person who has seen it, and hasn't cared for it on any level, ever? I used to wonder why but I guess it has something to do with it coming off as some kind of weird internet fanfic story. There has always been, to me, just something indescribably repulsive about the movie from the start.
James Cameron did an MTV Movie awards skit with Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn making fun of Titanic, where they pitched him on making Titanic 2, which invloved the survivors turning into Mermen and creating a new civilization within the wreckage. I really don't think Cameron would react to this the way you are making it out.
This fear of Cameron's thin skin sounds more like a cover from a bitter joke writer whose skit was rejected because it was, simply, a piece of shit. As others have mentioned here, Cameron has several times willingly played the foil in jokes about him. The guy, for all his faults, at least seems to be aware of his reputation as a hardass and has a sense of humor about it. It seems to me that the true humorless clods, aside from the true blue Avatards who take the movie too seriously (I, for one, thought the movie is a terrific piece of genre flash worth revisiting), are the writers who can't cope with the movie's astounding global success and popularity.
Cameron is the savior of Hollywood please don't make him mad. FACT: only slack-jawed retards enjoy FAGATAR. They only praise the movie as a theme park ride then cry like bitches when people tell the truth about how terrible FAGATAR is as a movie. Not a theme park ride. just like RED LETTER MEDIA'S review
Hey, guess what? Someone did some reporting … and Cameron doesn't give a shit if they make fun of him. http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/hwood_party_girl/b170072_james_cameron_oscars_go_ahead_make_fun.html
