Great stuff. I hope you still post your rip-down. But my theory is that Burton's never had any clue why he's so popular. I think the reality is as shown but with TB in a massive panic of snot, tears and hair-pulling desperately cannibalizing past work.

Minus the enthusiasm, that's how Burton rolls. I just wish that Elfman could be recognized for his work outside Burton, his other scores can sound quite normal. (but still awesome).

Burton's on my long list of once brilliant artists whose bodies of work could've only remained flawless if they'd died/killed themselves when they were still young. Other members of this list include Ice Cube, Nick Cage, Winona Ryder, and Eminem.

BULL SHIT. I revisit Sweeney Todd VERY often, and it is very good if not great.

Burton has lost the basic art of pacing and likable character, relying on a style so overdone, devoid of soul and time wasting.. Beetlejuice, Peewee, Edward's overdone style fit the characters and were coupled with plenty of real life problems/situations to help relate to the viewer.. Like George Lucas, no one is questioning Burtons choices.. Alice looks like a bunch of throw-crap-at-the-screen 3D opportunities and more poorly drawn characters, lets hope theres plenty of awful songs.. oh yea, he's remaking one of his own movies next.. the choice is just stupefying..

This is why I don't know what to think about Planet of the apes. It was a bad try at a commercial movie but at least it was different from his formula.

It's become very fashionable for dweebs to beat up on Tim Burton. I find it very amusing (but not at all surprising) to see Devin jump on the bandwagon. Nevermind that he gave VERY positive reviews to Sweeney Todd and Charlie & Chocolate Factory. "I take it back! Sweeney sucks!" ugh, what a fat loser.

I agree that Sweeny Todd is not getting fair treatment here. Burton didn't rely on all of his standard tricks in that movie. No Elfman, no bright colors (except red), no spirals, clowns or inorganic cheeky humor. In fact other than stripes, Depp and whats-her-name (sorry) it was a different animal. That said, I would like to see some more original stuff (I liked Big Fish as well). It's when he slaps his name on movies he didn't direct to fool the rubes that I get annoyed.

I don't think it's his fault that the rubes fall for "Tim Burton Presents…" or whatever tag they slap on movies he didn't direct. I blame the vendors that keep cranking out "Nightmare Before Christmas" merchandise and the Hot Topic crowd in general. I've noticed that people that are into all things Kevin Smith are the same way, like if he appears in something, he must have MADE it, right? I think I've had people tell me that he directed Die Hard 4 and Daredevil. They don't understand that yes, these people are filmmakers, but that doesn't necessarily mean that because their name is mentioned in association with a film that they actually MADE that particular film. As far as I'm concerned, I'd like to see Burton try more things like "Big Fish", because the Burton films where he has Johnny Depp playing Johnny Depp in every Tim Burton movie he's ever been in does nothing for me at all. Oh, and "Planet of the Apes" was a pile of ass, at least from a story standpoint.

Devin steals more weeners than wynona riders clepto butt shoot. Ive been reading chud for awhile now and noticed every single one of devins articles are basically the same thing. Bash and shit talk, because someone had pooped in his mouth and beat it in there with a hammer repeatedly. Im not sticking up for tim burton either but I just think its amusing.

Yeah, because anyone who dares to say that Burton still has his spark is "manipulated", right? In my *opinion*, Sweeney Todd is one of his best films yet and holds up very well on repeat viewings due to the superb performances and atmosphere. Plus, Big Fish and Corpse Bride were both pretty great, too. Is there a bashing bandwagon that Devin won't launch his fat ass on?

At least burton's movies strive to be different and unique. There's no movie ever made in existence that will ever top pee wee's big adventure, EVER. so what if he's kind of skated off the rails. he was a genius once…

This version of Tim reminds ma a little of The Dark Knight's Joker.

The only thing that saves most of Burton's films from being considered shit by everyone is the visuals. It certainly isn't the stories. And the visuals are getting old and cliche. That Hot-Topic line from the film review for Alice was about as perfect a summing up of Burton's career as I've ever read.

And yet Seth Rogen plays the same character in every movie he's in and gets a free pass. Amazing. Oh, that's right, Devin thinks he IS the character Seth Rogen plays in all his movies.

I think Burton has just become bored directing movies and is just collecting paychecks to buy art or whatever he does with the money. And personally, I thought SWEENEY was fine, but BIG FISH was his last good movie. He desperately needs to stop remaking/rehashing stuff and find something new and fresh and reinvigorating. I know it might be foolish, but I'd like to see him actually make something worthwhile again…

personally, i think his only good movie is Ed Wood – everything else is good looking trash with daddy issues.
