Yesterday while I was watching the beautiful new restoration of The African Queen, many of you were experiencing the horrible degradation of Spaced. Simon Pegg apparently found footage from the American pilot of his baby and provided it on twitter without commentary, letting the rest of us find out for ourselves what horrors lay in wait.
It’s worse than we could have imagined. Those with weak hearts might want to stay away- it’s never a fun thing to see our loved ones mistreated like this. The one good thing we can bring from this is that it never made it to air.

Wow, and I thought only us Germans could take a brilliant series und just film the same scripts again, but unfunny. (We did it with "Marrried with children" and "the IT crowd".)

I just finished watching Spaced again (thanks again, Hulu!), and this is doubly painful as Spaced is still very fresh in my brain. It was like Mad TV wanted to make a spoof of how American versions are less funny. I'm very glad this never made it to air.
Why make a foreign version of anything? Something ususally works because of where it was produced. This looks like a student film with the values of a web series. It is abhorrent. Let it never soil my senses again.
I expected much worse. It actually wasn't horrifying at all. Not as funny as the original, but I did laugh.
Glad I watched Spaced online instead of wasting my money. Christ, yet another overrated Brit show.
It sort of has potential.. But why the fuck would they cast a meathead douchebag as the simon pegg character?
It's really not that bad – a bit like the first episode of the US Office. It leans heavily on the original (and suffers by comparison) but it's not terrible by any means. Though this being the Internet there's no middle ground so something has to be the Best Thing Ever or Worst Thing Ever.
I wouldn't have minded seeing it being given even a half season run to see if it went anywhere.
Miscast tho – both the Simon Pegg and Nick Frost characters are WRONG. The others seem okay.

So glad this got axed in infancy (there can only be one Spaced). That was very very very very sad to watch. And it made my eyes bleed, and that dominate cool part of my brain shriveled up and hid in the lizard-part of the ganglia just to get away from it all. Truly, horrid… horrid.
Don't blame me…I didn't do it.
I read the script for the American version a while back. The only truly funny bits were stolen directly from the original. Most of the new gags were awkward on the page. I don't know if they would have come through when filmed. Looking at this cast, probably not.

In fairness, he's actually not bad in the clip.
The cast seemed like they were trying pretty hard. Now if they'd just write for them instead of missing the point of every character…
Admittedly everyone thought this little abomination/adaptation was going to be a spunk flavored lollipop. However the actual results appear to much worse, having taken the gold at the poo poo Olympics.

I thought the girl was ok, certainly nothing on Jessica Hynes, but seemed pretty decent. I agree that the Pegg and Frost replacements were terrible though.

Wasn't that bad. Could have been far far worse. I kind of think less of Simon Pegg (who had gone way down in my estimation when I followed him on twitter for a while anyway) for getting this out there when nobody actually needed to see it. It just smacks of 'see how cool I am, see how shit this was then think I'm even cooler'.
Nothing good has ever, and will ever, come from Twitter. Facebook can also suck it.
Andy8: Consider what Simon Pegg says- "My main problem with the notion of a Spaced remake is the sheer lack of respect that Granada/ Wonderland/Warner Bros have displayed in respectively selling out and appropriating our ideas without even letting us know. A decision I can only presume was made as a way of avoiding having to give us any money, whilst at the same time using mine and Edgar’s name in their press release, in order to trade on the success of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz…A device made all the more heinous by the fact that the press release neglected to mention the show’s co-creator and female voice, Jessica Hynes…The fact is, when we signed our contracts ten years ago, we had neither the experience or the kudos to demand any clauses securing any control over future reversioning."
