Now that you’ve digested that, check out the list of hopefuls that Summit is exploring to direct that opus, according to EW.com: Sources tell EW that the studio has reached out to at least three top-notch directors, including Sofia Coppola (Lost in Translation), Gus Van Sant (Milk), and Bill Condon (Dreamgirls)
to gauge their interest in what is likely to be two movies. (Van Sant’s
reps confirmed that he’s been approached, but Coppola and Condon’s
people didn’t return phone calls by press time. Summit declined to
comment.)
Just in case you’re not up on things, Van Sant has been nominated for two directing Oscars (Milk, Good Will Hunting), Coppola was nominated for directing Lost In Translation and won the statue for writing same, and Bill Condon has both been nominated for writing (Chicago), and won an Oscar for writing for Gods and Monsters. He also directed Kinsey and Dreamgirls among others, both films previously nominated for Oscars. So these are some pretty heavy hitters…to direct Twilight 4. Wow.
Hope Spielberg gets in on this before its too late on the message boards.

Comment #3- I agree. I can't imagine that Twilight coverage is really causing that much more activity for the site anyway. If it does, it's probably a) bringing in readers that are going to be a pain in the ass by defending this thing to death, or b) readers that aren't likely to hang around. I'm fairly sure that they also won't be clicking on any of the ads for DVD releases of horror movies they haven't heard of. A lot of directors are possibly up for the gig? No shit. It's news when there IS a director for the project. In the meantime, any other article here for Twilight is just going to bait the "Why the fuck do you guys run articles on Twilight?" crowd even more.

Um, I think this is pretty interesting. Probably because I'm interested in movies, and news about movies. Why does everyone else read this site?

This is a film news site. This is news about film. I'd think that the potential involvement of any of these directors would more than justify CHUD's attention. Jesus H. Christ… haters gotta hate.
Catherine Hardwicke made a better Twilight movie than Gus Van Sant or Sofia Coppola could ever manage.
It doesn't matter, even if they get someone like Van Sant to direct this the studio will just pull it away from him (see: David Slade) the second he tries to make even a remotely interesting or intriguing movie and ensure it's as safe and bland as possible. I don't know why Devin thinks the batshit source material will make for such an insane, holy crap kind of movie, because I doubt the studio wants that kind of product to begin with, and will make changes accordingly.
What about this isn't big news? Terrible piece of shit vampire series getting top note directors – do they like the material? Is it the money (are they selling out/is business bad at their end of town)? These are filmmakers used to calling their own shots and yet are being sought for what you'd expect to be a very studio-dictated set of "product" movies. The fault here isn't with CHUD, it's with the piss-poor comprehension of you anal-leaks from AICN coming here all day every day to leave comments about how you don't like coming here. #13, the article doesn't say they're all making Breaking Dawn. It says the producers/studio "want" the stated directors. Much like Captain America "wants" a bunch of actors.
Well, Harry Potter got Alfonso Cuaron. Which was a pretty incredible booking straight after Y Tu Mama Tembien. This, however, smells like a PR stunt. Just a way for the studio to try to give these ridiculous films some legitimacy.
Nobody 'legitimate' would touch these pieces of shit with a ten foot pole. Even the fans are admitting these movies are shit, and a select few are beginning to realize the books are shit too. And Remember Me fucking failing like it did showed that all this faggotry and all those involved will blow away and will be forgotten within the decade. Well maybe not Stewart, she's done some good stuff, I really liked her in Adventureland.
