I did not like his casting as the Human Torch, but I like this better. I thought the torch should have been more of a lanky poser teenager. This might be better, as long as they have a script.

In addition to script issues they are also going to need a new director. Joe Johnston is well on his well to Stephens Sommers' level of sucktitude.

I used to hate Evans for his participation in the crap series of Fantastic Four. Then I heard he was working with Danny Boyle on Sunshine. I almost didn't go see that movie specifically because of him. But he was the best character and actor in that movie. He won me over and I forgave him for Fart-tastic Four. He is the perfect choice for the Cap. Good Job Evans. Keep kicking ass!

I was just rewatching Sunshine last night – he's such a REALLY terrific actor. Really happy about this.

Sunshine was a great flick and I think a lot of the performances were great. Funny how a site that trashed the movie upon it's release is now trying to jump on the Chris Evans bandwagon as he was definitely a highlight of the flick and was certainly not championed by chud.

Devin must want to suck his cock, and have Chris' man-milk all up on his gross beard.

But, that aside, it's a good choice.

Finally its all over. I am totally glad he accepted the role. Also glad we were not going to get kellan lutz or channing tatum. Cant wait to see how rest of casting unfolds.

Evans is bland. Maybe slightly less bland than some of the other bland pretty boys, but still very bland. Hopefully the role as its written doesn't require too much charisma.

Wow he's in a lot of comic book movies. Fantastic 4, The Losers, Scott Pilgrim and now this. I think he'll make a good Captain America though

Evans hasn't always had the best roles, but he's done his best with them. He's often made a strong impression even in small parts. Bottom line: He's a good guy who deserves a break like this, and furthermore, I'm sure he knows this and will really deliver.

Great choice – I've liked him since Cellular, and Sunshine was the icing on the cake. He deserves to be a big star. Still can't fathom that title though. Surely it should be the other way around, with 'The First Avenger' as the subtitle?

All of you complaining about this casting don't seem to know a thing about Captain America. Steve Rogers was born in 1917. He was an art student when he became Cap. He fought in WWII for about 4 years. Then he was frozen, and thawed out in the "present day" by the newly-formed Avengers. If the movies are going to show Cap joining the Avengers, he'd be under thirty. Just like Chris Evans. Even if you want to picture Cap as the veteran leader of the Avengers, unless you believe Peter Parker went to High School for forty years, he'd still be about 35 at best.

Chris is 6 foot even, Downey Jr. is 5'9. I think it will look okay. Not sure how big the guy who is playing Thor is though. I like Evans, but i think Krascinski would have been better. I'm still pleased.

hoping for someone more hardedged, a butt-chin perhaps, maybe a Christopher Meloni or Eckhart.. too old for sequels, but they'll reboot anything these days..

@ Havok: Hemsworth is 6'3" so the height order is about right… Iron Man is the shortest, Cap is in the middle and Thor will tower over both of them…. well, actually the Hulk will be the tallest…
As for Evans in Sunshine, he was fantastic. I thought his… SPOILER!!!…. heroic self-sacrifice near the end captures what Cap is all about.

I'm honestly disappointed. I don't think of cap as this punk smart ass young guy like myself, if you ask anyone in the military at this point. Having actually met real actual military people and being the son of one, um, I think I kind of know how they should look and behave and he isn't it. BUT if he hits the gym hard, and man's the hell up before filming, I'll reconsider.

I love this choice. He definitely has the looks, but he has charisma. I can not wait to see him going up against RDJ..those two together could be a riot. Very hopeful about this movie now, and LOVE the fact it's going to take place in the 40's as it should be. Thought they'd f#@! around with his origin, or update it.

Comment #38–Hemsworth is 26, but he's playing a god that's thousands of years old, so age doesn't really matter. Evans is 28, and if you go by the 1917 birthdate (which I believe Marvel may have retconned to make the character slightly younger), he's actually the exact age he should be if he's fighting in 1945. Cap and Iron Man SHOULDN'T really relate, at least not at first. I thought that Nick Fury would have been an excellent character for Cap to relate to, but they went with the Ultimate version and not classic Fury with the Howling Commandos. When the Avengers find him, Cap is essentially a time traveler, a guy that basically ceased to exist in 1945 and is brought into the modern day. Lots of good character stuff that can come from that alone, as he deals with a world that passed him by. As far as age is concerned, all of the actors seem to be cast well. As far as the rest of the currently uncast parts are concerned, keep in mind that the Marvel Universe is populated by a lot of immortals, boy geniuses, and characters that have been aged, de-aged, killed, and resurrected so many times that even the CREATORS probably don't know how old they are. If casting skews a bit younger, it isn't really messing anything up.

Congrats to Devin, for tirelessly campaiging on our behlaf, and getting the right man, the only man, who could fill Cap's tights.

Sunshine is an outstanding and he was really good in it. My college roommate grew up with Chris and had nothing but good things to say about him. It's nice to see a "good" guy get a role this big (nothing will trump his turn in "Not Another Teen Movie"). "Jakey, Jakey…about to make a big…mistakey." Not his line, but you get it.
