That’s a real poster from NASA. It’s
not fan made or a spoof. It’s really what NASA had on for that mission
to the International Space Station.
In fact NASA has a whole bunch of
really odd, more than a little cool posters for their various missions;
among the expected inspirational posters are a bunch that touch on
movies and other pop culture things, and they’re all available for free
download over at the NASA site. They
have hi-res versions that can be printed out and even framed, if you so
felt inclined.

Some dude who works for NASA spent 20 minutes making posters for kids and the comment retards act like NASA isn't taking space travel seriously.
Wow, you people (Chudfan and Lucidz) have obviously never met or worked with any engineers or anyone else in this field. You would know that they work incredibly hard hours and have almost impossibly difficult jobs sometimes. They usually have a good sense of humor and they like to blow off a little steam from time to time. Cute little posters like this just reflect that. Incredibly bizarre and lame? Why would promotional posters be considered a waste of tax dollars? Or, at least any more than space travel already is. Did you ever get up in arms about posters of the moon or Mars that were promotional NASA posters? Doubtful.

Avatarfan brings up a good point why haven't those eggheads discovered a cool planet like pandora yet? Maybe its not the posters but maybe it is. I guess the point is they should stop wasting taxpayer dollars on crap like this and start discovering cool stuff!

Wow great discussion finally on the comments board. I am not sure if we can directly correlate NASA's waste of time, money and resources over cheesy posters into why we have not discovered cool planets like pandora yet. However it is possible, and I for one would be first to sign up to make the trip if we did! I am not handicapped like the guy in the movie but I still think it would be totally awesome to go to another planet and control other creatures. Instead I am stuck looking at nerds dressed up like movie characters!

people need to seriously take a chill pill. If this is what upsets you and you feel it is misuse of money I don't see how your argument is valid. I for one find it kinda cool and incredibly geeky and if it gets people interested in the space program and excited for the missions then so be it. Seriously NASA has taken a LOT of flack over the years for reasons that range from the incredibly trite to maybe perhaps a little undeserved. I have no problem with this.
Maybe we should find a way to enslave and control the engineers at NASA first. That way we could stop them from making lame and creepy posters and redirect them towards discovering a cool pandora like planet. Only problem is it probably won't be as fun controlling a NASA engineer as it would a Na'vi creature.

Guys just because NASA made some creepy posters doesn't mean they wasted time spent on discovering cool planets. Look at it this way, some of the posters in the comments section actually thought the posters were cool, obviously this sort of thing appeals to nerds and nerds are smart. So if these posters recruit more nerds then maybe we will be able to find and enslave cool planets much much sooner!

I don't really care about discovering a Pandora like planet but what I do care about is government waste. I think we should all take Devin's advice and write to our congressman complaining about NASA wasting our tax dollars on bizarre/creepy posters!
Guys its not an either or discussion. NASA can make lame posters and discover a pandora like planet at the same time. What do guys think there is like 2 guys at NASA? They have like a hundred people and probably only 10 of them are working on these posters. That means 90% are working on discovering Pandora!

With the computing power that I assume is available to NASA folks, those posters probably took all of 45 minutes total to produce….I'm talking design, execution, and print! And honestly, I would rather see tax dollars spent on cool (albeit not the most original) posters commemorating ACTUAL missions, rather than imaginary missions looking for poorly conceived cgi planets with stupid plots and gimmicky special effects in place of good storytelling.

Jesus Christ guys they work 80 hour weeks and these things took 30 minutes. Astronaut candidates spend almost the entire first year of training away from their families. People DIE in these jobs, and you're criticizing them for making a fucking POSTER to commemorate their mission???? FUCK I hate you people.
NASA has been making geeky posters for decades for schools and colleges.. they finally use some creativity, movies being the theme here, posted on a movie site and all the conservatives cry about wasting tax dollars.. why bother getting our kids interested in science when europe and japan are so far ahead?

This is far from a waste of tax dollars. First, NASA hires more than just engineers, etc. They've got 3D Designers, video production specialists, graphic designers, etc. already on the payroll.
These weren't contracted out to a design studio, they were produced in-house which means that they people that created them are employed for purposes other than designing posters to keep the astronauts entertained. I work for the government and we do the same thing from time to time, when we get some spare time.
The point is that these people are already on the payroll – it doesn't require any extra expenditure on the part of the taxpayer. The designers are used for far more than these posters.

When they do find a Pandora like planet how will they decide who gets to travel their first? I am also extremely worried that the army may try to overthrow the natives like in the movie. This would really be a shame because the natives probably will not have the technology to fight back. I really hope we make the right choices. Anyways great discussion!
I have to believe that our army would do the right thing in that situation Stargazer. I would hope that we would all have enough sense not to harm the natives of a Pandora like planet. I would like to believe we learned our lesson with the indians don't you? Anyways great debate and I disagree with Devin because I feel those bizarre posters are not really a big waste of our tax dollars.
Ok I think Stargazer and Andromeda are missing the point. Devin is suggesting that we write to our congressman and complain so we can get NASA back on track. The sooner we do that the sooner we discover a Pandora like planet. Then we can worry about who gets to go first and if the army will enslave the natives.
