I just now caught the new Iron Man 2 poster over at THR.com, who had it by way of Yahoo! Movies.
*sigh*
Okay look, my own Photoshop abilities are minimal at best, but come on, this has got to be the most vanilla, formulaic, PS-jobbed thing going right now. I’d kill a busload of nuns and orphans to make sure I don’t miss this film, but this one sheet sure as hell wouldn’t inspire that kind of determination.

Iron Man 2 – starring Robert Downey Jr. and Scarlett Johansson’s ass (at least it wasn’t as gratuitous as having her completely bending over). And for Iron Man’s sake, I hope James Rhodes is a little more focused in battle, in this poster it looks like he’s trying to remember where he left his car keys.
I long for the days before PhotoShop…when movie posters were ART!! I have tons of great old movie posters hanging in my home…and NOTHING from recent movies. And the sad thing is,these are COMIC BOOK movies!!! How cool would it have been to get some starving silver-age Marvel artist to whip up an Iron Man poster? I'm pretty sure the Fantastic Four movies would have made a little more money if they had posters that looked like they were designed by Jack Kirby…..
The same image would work better if it was an illustration a-la Struzan. The fact it was photoshopped is what makes it shitty. As a concept for an action adventure poster it's not bad. It gives you the heroes, villains and promises lots of fire and brimstone.
I know Dru Struzan retired, but there has to be someone out there that can mimic his style better than this. Geeky movies like this deserve better. WTF is with the explosion behind Mickey Rourke? I can only accept art like that if he has a line like "I'm a mushroom cloud laying mother fucker!"
Photoshop jockeys should be banned from movie promotion.
Somebody start a petition.
No, wait a minute. How come more geeks aren't aspiring to work at studios in marketing? We can replace the fuckheads!
Killing a busload of nuns and orphans? I'd pay $12.50 for that. Oh, and fuck Jesus.
Actually, now that I look at it, it kinda looks like Robert Downey Jr. is ejaculating fire and Mickey Rourke is about to get Superman'd.
it's pronounced "lah-may"
francis is busy, I'm sure there is great art for the movie, but it's not going to be used. One of the main reasons why there are so many posters like this is because of contracts with actors and the like. You can make the best poster possible, but if the lead actor's head isn't big enough, you can't use it.
Everyone on that poster seems pretty distracted excpet for Gwneth Paltrow…
WOW…that is bad.
The problem is that the Pshop artist or team would have had to prepare a dozen different concepts in a very short space of time. The marketing and studio people will have then chosen the absolute worst of the bunch.
That poster only really need three things: Iron Man, RDJ, and Scarlett J.'s ass.
