Upon reading over at THR.com that Angela Bassett (whom I once met and love, FYI) had just been cast in the upcoming Green Lantern pic as Amanda Waller, I had a moment of “I thought Pam Grier was already doing that” pop into my head. But then I realized that that refers to her current role on Smallville. So, for me, that’s good news that Angela Bassett has gotten the role. Lovely that she’ll be bringing her talent (and perfectly formed biceps) to the role. Waller is described as a government agent who in comics
lore became charged with overseeing the Suicide Squad, a government-run
group of captured supervillains performing tasks in exchange for
eventual freedom. It is unclear if that group will pop up in Lantern
or if that mythology is being set up.
Waller has recently gained quite a foothold in the DC TV and film universe over the last few years or so. She’s previously had the wonderful CCH Pounder portray her in both Justice League Unlimited and Superman/Batman: Public Enemies, as well as the aforementioned Grier portray her. Green Lantern comes out on June 17th, 2011.

Wonderful news, but it's so ashamed that Angela Basset never played the role she was born for – Storm in the X-Men franchise. Storm was originally a goddess…who was tall, and Basset has the physical and mental stature to act that role. She even LOOKS like Storm, dammit! Oh well, maybe if they re-do X-Men like they're redoing every other damn movie….. Green Lantern is certainly looking better and better.
I appreciate the news story and am a big fan of Angela as well. The problem is that the Green Lantern is one of the worst super hero creations ever and no one is excited to see this movie. Sure you will have some die hard nerds who other geeks make fun of for showing even a passing interest in a super hero whos power comes from a magic ring. But the rest of us don't care and this movie will flop like a pancake. I think the rest of us can agree that the Green Lantern is super faggy and even the way his power works looks super gay. Anyways glad to hear Ms Bassett got a gig.
What if they're setting her character up as a "Nick Fury" type who will act as the recruiter for an eventual JLA movie? Could Warner's/DC be ripping off Disney/Paramount/Marvel's Avenger game plan?

This news marks the first time I've wanted to see a DC movie universe like the one Marvel is creating. Great casting.

Isn't Waller built like a dumpster? She's ugly too if I recall right. This casting doesn't make any sense. It's like casting Judy Dench as Wonder Woman.

Chudfan obviously hasn't read GL. the 2004+ series is the best run since Lee's Spider-man. Epic, Epic stuff. The new Star Wars. fucking idiot. GL isn't faggy when Lanterns are creating machine guns and obliterating sinestro corps soldiers.
