I missed [Rec] 2 at Fantastic Fest last year, but I heard lots of interesting things about it. The sequel to the Spanish film that was remade in the United States as Quarantine, [Rec] 2 apparently goes into some very interesting, divisive territory – some folks I spoke with hated the new ideas in the movie, while others loved them. That always marks a movie worth checking out for yourself, in my opinion.
Magnet is bringing this movie stateside in the coming months on VOD. Here’s the trailer.

I'm shocked to see how many people love this one. To me, the first one is way better.. The sequel's got pretty good ideas, but the bad stuff is REALLY bad and took me away from it.. and the ending.. boy, that f**king ending..
I am here to attest on the audience divide. Unlike the poster above I really enjoyed the sequel and truly enjoyed the idea the filmakers go for here.
Disliked this sequel. I was not really on board for the "new ideas", but I could have stomached them in a film with a structure that makes sense. Instead it's (SPOILERS) SWAT team gets destroyed in 30 minutes, then a bunch of random and extremely annoying kids break into the building for no reason and get destroyed in 30 minutes, then it all goes off the rails into nonsense territory.
Ha! Put me in the 'Loved it!" side of this argument. The overall intensity was fantastic.
Also, there seemed to be no divide at the showing I was at… the sold out Toronto Film Fest crowd seemed to pretty much LOVE it from start to finish (at least, according to their very enthusiastic reaction throughout the film, and the love that was showered on the directors in the Q&A afterwards).
