Did you know MacGruber is based on an SNL sketch? Or that people still apparently watch SNL? Me either!
The timely MacGyver spoof will be unleashed upon North American audiences at the end of next month, and a new red band trailer has popped up to show you some extra cuss words and blood. The best bits undeniably belong to Val Kilmer, who seems to be having some fun with the role. As for the rest, well, let’s hear what you think in the comments.

I like you Alex, but you really didn't know that this was based on a SNL skit? Doesn't every piece of marketing mention it? C'mon man!! Personally, I think this looks pretty funny. 'bout time SNL produced a reasonably funny movie. Ever since Adam Sandler and Company left it has been a barren wasteland of unfunny… with the exception of Andy Samberg.
I really had no idea- I can't remember the last time I watched SNL. Kilmer hamming it up is really the only thing that interests me, though- it's been a while since he got a fun villain role.
That 'date rape' line was pretty funny. The rest looked like crap. What's with all the pro wrestlers?
Hilarious first line there Alex and yeah SNL has been shit for over 10 years closer to 15. I wouldn't see this for free at a test screening.
Kilmer's character's name was pretty funny.
Kristen Wiig is hilarious! This looks a lot funnier than I anticipated.
I saw it at SXSW (for free #4). It was actually pretty fucking funny. The expectations for this are so low, I bet there are going to be a lot of surprised people. I hate SNL movies, but this one lends itself to the format much better than crap like Ladies Man and Superstar.
Forte and Wiig are genuinely funny, but a funny thats not mainstream.. (not hawt or teh sexy).. SNL has its moments still, not totally worthless, I honestly think its the fact that music has steadily gone down the shitter since the shows beginnings, there might be 1-2 acts a season I can dig, which is half the criticism I hear about the show, "who the hell was their music guest? wow, they sucked"..
Looks alright. I'll prolly catch it in theaters even.
I thought this would be worst movie ever…but it looks mildly amusing.Score one for expectations of absolute zero
