Plans to remake Torchwood for American audiences at Fox are scrapped. However, BBC is shopping it to other potential parties:
“BBC Worldwide Productions and the FOX Broadcasting Company have
mutually agreed not to progress together with a 13-episode serialized
‘Torchwood’ format,” said BBC Worldwide in a statement. “We are
currently in discussion with several interested networks.”
Also, there are no plans whatsoever to bring Doctor Who to the Colonies, according to BBC Worldwide executive vp of programming and production Jane Tranter: “It may well be confusing to have a British Doctor and an American
Doctor at the same time,” she said. “There is only one Doctor, so I
don’t see that happening.”

This is a good thing. Fox almost never does right by it's scifi properties, as we all know. For every X-Files or Fringe there's a Harsh Realm, a Millennium, a Brisco County, a MANTIS, a Firefly, a Dollhouse…all shows that weren't given a proper chance to fully develop…so Torchwood should go elsewhere…or better yet, just effing broadcast the first series and see if it finds an audience.
Have there ever been any genuinely bad shows from overseas that have been turned into successful US series, or is EVERY show to ever grace BBC's airwaves an untouchable classic in the eyes of anyone that's seen it? I'm sure if they adapted "The Facts of Life" for British TV, some asshole over there would still be talking about how perfect the American version was and how no one should ever bastardize it. Plus, everyone knows "Facts of Life" only BECAME perfect after it's game-changing 6th season. That's common knowledge…

you see, russell t davies masterplan in taking dr who was to pursue a career in US TV and it's all turned to shit for him! Way-hay! Serves him right for trashing the show and slavishly remodelling it in Joss Whedon's image. After the relaunched show aired in the UK in 2005 the bbc were so desperate for it to be picked up in the states. they tried for a while before (syfy?) relented. Notice how everyone who has been in it has tried with varying degrees of success to launch careers over there, and how the new show catered to the US TV format (episode duration, historical characters that even burger-flippers in any continent could recognize etc.). But torchwood itself, what a watered down urine sample of a show. You wonder, is this the best adult sci-fi the UK can come up with??!! Wow, God, if you're listening, thanks!
So glad this isn't at Fox. Maybe ABC will pick this up.
I'd heard good things about the "revival" cycles (since 2004), so I gave one a look-see. They're enjoyable, but I don't really just sit down and watch them. My wife, on the other hand, is currently about half-way through Tennant's tenure as the Doctor. She watches them for hours on end. Weekends? Dr. Who, if she can get away with it. In the plus column, I'm hoping it gets her into other Brit shows. She already likes Blackadder, and is alright with Monty Python. If I can get her into Spaced, Coupling, Boosh, and Garth Marenghi, all will be okay here.

All I can say is "Good." I like the British shows and somehow when they're brought to the US, they're never the same. Like if Tyler Perry were to reinvent Are You Being Served with Medea as Mrs. Slocum. You'd watch it once to see how bad it is, then never tune in again.
