Sorry – obviously faked out punches, pulled kicks and inauthentic, over-stylised choreography do not a decent B-grade fight film make. I know we're all Jones-ing for a Cannon Films renaissance, but this looks bland and uninteresting. Maybe there's hidden gold in this film, but this clip just doesn't show it. The work done with Tony Jaa – even the at times the older style fighting of a Bruce Lee film – is far, far better than this.

@James: Bruce was the master, no doubt about that. And Tony Jaa is good too. But 'far, far better than this'? Hm. I just don't see that, but different strokes and so forth…

What other martial arts flicks do you like?

Seriously James, while it may not make bad sublots and weak script disappear, I'm hard pressed to think of much being made right now to challenge this. Yes, maybe it's a little more like Tekken than real life, but Rocky was a little more like Punch Out as well. I love Jaa, but ONG BAK II was lacking even on scene this good. I don't know where we got all are high B movie standards from, but I have seriously dug on much worse fighting than this (Hard Times anyone?)

Ong Bak II had AMAZING fights!! The story was just all over the map. LOVE Tony Jaa.

There are two schools of action fans these days. There's the macho goddamn sexual tyrannosauri breed who appreciate musclebound hard-hitting motherfuckers like Undisputed III or JCVD and Dolph et al. And then there are the SNAGS (or fags in the old tongue) like James who drink tea while reading subtitles consider level of polish inversely as the marker of whether something is good. I get that now so in the interest of welcoming our queer cousins to the action scene I offer James the tip that the highly acclaimed Merantau will have him coming in his pants, but yes James, avoid Undispituted 3, Universal Soldier Regeneration, and Blood and Bone at any cost.

Speaking of best action sequences ever. How about the entire last third of RACE WITH THE DEVIL? I've just discovered that movie, and man, I had no idea a Winnebago could take that much abuse.

Dev, did you consider him a James Bond villain because of the rip off 007 tune at the start of the clip? In all seriousness, film looks decent I'll check it out. Reminds me a bit of Blood and Bone, another great recent 8underground fighting film.

Haha, I'm a SNAG apparently. @VagJockey, I'm no marital arts film afficionado, but I have seen my fair share of action movies. The problem with the clip above is it looks similar to the fights I used to have between my Action Man figures when I was 9, all flowing action from one punch where a block turns into a kick turns into a punch turns into a bit of ballet. Nothing wrong with that on its own terms but as I prefer my fight sequences to have a bit of realism or intensity to them. Best examples I can think of, Cusack's fight with the Dragon in Grosse Pointe Blank, Lee versus Norris in Way of the Dragon and pretty much the whole of Ong Bak. If you want to go down the balletic route, go the whole hog and be like Jet Li in the Once Upon a Time in China series. This just feels a bit half arsed.

And @AU_Armageddon, I won't deny I enjoy the odd cup of char, I like down and dirty action as much as the next guy, Unless that next guy happens to be a cross between Simon Cowell, Ru Paul and Quentin Crisp in which case I'll save them from themselves by tearing their throat out and ripping out their spine.

I like your attitude towards this b action flick, devin and I enjoy a good action scene, but based on your review I expected the action scenes to be better that what was on display in this clip. The combat feels pretty choreographed and the blows don't really have the "oomph" factor of Ong bank and its ilk. I'm surprised more people don't bring up Jet Li's "Kiss of the dragon" for some great meaty action scenes. Plus its great to see Any thing involving Bruce lee getting continued love. The man defined martial arts action movies.
