I see a lot of movies every year. A
ton. But this year I’ve decided I don’t see enough movies, so one of my
New Year Resolutions was to simply see more. And to write about them.
See, that’s the other half of the equation: I see a ton of movies, but
I write about comparatively few of them. There are a lot of reasons,
but they mainly boil down to the fact that I feel the need to do long
form reviews, and sometimes – like in the midst of Sundance – I just
don’t have the time.
And
so was born this new blog! I aim to make an entry for every single
movie I see in 2010. Some entries may be very short, some may be
lengthy. Entries may take a couple of days to be posted. Let’s see how
long this lasts.
One
last thing: one of my main objectives this year is to rewatch more
movies. I know this sounds like a strange goal, but there are films I
haven’t seen since high school, which means it’s been almost a lifetime
since I saw them. Recently I rewatched Black Christmas for the first
time since the 1980s, and I might as well have been seeing the movie
for the first time. I’m interested in getting a look at some movies I
loved or hated twenty or even ten years ago and seeing how I feel about
them now.

#47 Shaun of the Dead

One of my favorite movies of all time. The missus wanted to watch it for Valentine’s Day, since she thinks it’s romantic, although whether it’s the Shaun/Liz relationship she likes or the Shaun/Ed I can’t figure out.
I don’t know how many times I’ve seen the movie, but I still laugh. I say the lines in advance and then laugh when the lines get said. And I feel bad when Shaun has to kill him mum. Dozens of viewings in and I still feel bad.
Broken record time but: if someone doesn’t like this movie they aren’t to be trusted. Period. It’s one of the great movies, and people will be watching it and saying the lines in advance fifty years from now.

Are you married? If not, refering to your girlfriend as "the missus" is kind of odd. That's great that you are in love and maybe thinking about marriage, but I would hold off on the missus talk unless you definitley want to marry this girl. If you do plan on marrying her, then run with it. Not trying to be negative, just sayin'.
It's not odd JC, it's just slang for "the other half". Which is just slang for "the missus". You're not meant to take it literally. —– p.s. I love Shaun Of The Dead and find Shaun and Ed's relationship romantic. Romantic as hell.
My wife and I brought this movie to our friends' house. "It's so good!" we'd say excitedly. This being my 5th or 6th viewing, my wife and I still laughed as much as the 1st time. They didn't laugh at all. We're seriously considering ending the friendship.
Your woman gets off on Zombie movies and wants to see that shit with you on V-fuck-day?
That's some sick shit you're into…and these other douchebags are wrong, calling her missus like that means you take her for granted and are bored with her. That's no problem except you aren't man enough to own it and move on. So you drown her with unhappiness too. You suck.

I totally agree, this is definitely a great movie and is one of my personal favorites as well. In terms of not trusting people who don't like it..well.. i'll extend that to Hot Fuzz instead. I find that a lot of people who aren't inclined towards 'great' films can't enjoy the slower pace of this SotD and I don't blame them..i was naive once.
Oh, and I'd just like to say..Christmas, Valentine's Day, or 4th of July – I'd watch Shaun of the Dead any day of the year!
