Huge news, folks! Telltale Games has just announced that their next two episodic games will be based on none other than Back to the Future and Jurassic Park.
Yes, the folks behind Sam and Max, Tales
of Monkey Island
and a bunch of other
incredible adventure games are tackling their biggest licenses
yet.
Telltale has inked a deal with NBC Universal to create
games from both properties, which will be turned into the usual Telltale “season” of
episodic games, typically between four and six episodes released one a month. Back to the Future will hit this winter, with Jurassic Park hitting soon
after.
Telltale CEO Dan Connors says: “Our partnership with Universal is an exciting next step in our continued growth as a mass-market games publisher and developer. We are all huge fans of both of these franchises. For Back to the Future and Jurassic Park we will leverage Telltale’s expertise in story-telling and game design to deliver on the unique elements of each series with our goal being to create compelling cinematic adventures paying homage to each franchise.”
“Telltale Games has succeeded in establishing a unique combination of digital and physical distribution models, and their reputation for quality production is well earned,” said Bill Kispert, Vice President and General Manger, Digital Platforms, Universal Partnerships & Licensing. “Telltale’s episodic story-telling is an ideal means by which to add compelling new content to these important franchises.”
Smart man. Who would have ever thought it would be possible to one day get a good Back to the Future game? What can we expect as far as voice acting and characters? The world is an exciting place right now…

well, I must be old b/c I know and adore BTTF and have alot of fondness for JP, but have never heard of Telltale or their games. As long as good properties are getting well-produced pieces, that's all that matters. I'll have to upgrade from my Atari to play these, won't I?
i hope they are as great as the NES BTTF games or the original JP game for Sega Genesis.
Well, I dug their latest Monkey Island episodic games so I remain cautiously optimistic. I can't imagine these movie-licensed games will be point-and-click adventures though …right?
Telltale is one of the best game studios out there right now and pretty much the only game in town when it comes to full-fledged adventure games in the classic style. The Tales of Monkey Island episodes and all three Sam & Max seasons have been brilliant. Some people disparage their Wallace & Gromit series, but I thought it was a brilliant use of the license and a lot of fun. Sad that we probably won't see any more.
Anyway, I have no doubt they'll do a great job with both of these somewhat out-of-left-field licenses. I wonder if they'll go for a more stylized look or more realistic ala the CSI games (which I haven't played).
Telltale has produced some really high quality stuff, and they've practically revived the Adventure genre after LucasArts shat on it all. Curious to see the gameplay, though. Back To The Future could work as a point-and-click, but Jurassic Park is another thing entirely
@ #2 (kubrick fan) Obviously you've never played the NES BTTF games. They were both god awful. JP on the genesis was awesome tho. Being able to play as the Raptor made it so. Oh and BTW, Kubrick was a hack. He made some the absolute worst movie adaptations of his era.
I spent a entire weekeng plowing through 'Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People' a couple of months ago. I regret nothing. This is good news indeed
