Looks like David Jaffe is making good on his promise to deliver a new Twisted Metal. The car combat game (favorite of Chud HNIC Nick Nunziata) was just officially announced at Sony’s E3 press conference today via an overly-long and quite silly teaser trailer. Looks like people only remember Sweet Tooth- where’s the Axel love, damn it? He’s the real madman, dodging missiles inside that wheel…

The devil is in the details here. 16 player online multiplayer, 2-4 player splitscreen (yes!), new game modes, and helicopters. That’s right, you’ll now be able to fly around the world blowing stuff up. Expect the usual crowd of madmen and women along with some new folks. Screens and video should hit soon!

It’s not the only sequel to grace the PS3- expect Killzone 3 to continue that incredibly overhyped series, inFamous 2, Mafia 2, LittleBigPlanet 2, Dead Space 2, Portal 2 (a surprise from Gabe Newell!) and possibly best of all, a Sly Cooper collection in the vein of the God of War collection.

[UPDATE- Sony just posted these new screens- enjoy!]

I'm a long time fan of TM, and I'm excited to play it again. But these (early) shots looks just barely better than TM: Black.

Loved TM2 and Black, but the vids I've seen from E3 look much worse than Black, and that was on PS2.

"Expect Killzone 3 to continue that incredibly overhyped series". Overhyped? Think you're confusing it with the billionth Halo.

Next to Twisted(the game show, and completely unrelated to TM) on the 3DO, Twisted Metal is the best multiplayer game ever. Can't wait to play this.

Vigilante 8 was a far superior car combat game.

How in the hell are terrestrial motor vehicles supposed to compete with frikkin' assault helicopters?
