The trailer for Paramount Vantage’s Middlemen just went live on Apple; I
had a chance to see the trailer last night at an exclusive event in
West Hollywood where journalists met writer/director George Gallo (of
Midnight Run fame) as well as stars Giovanni Ribisi and Gabriel Macht.
But more importantly, Christopher Mallick was in attendance. You may not
know his name, but you know his work; Mallick is the guy who Middlemen
is about, and he’s the guy who pretty much monetized Internet porn in
the 90s. In the film he’s played by Luke Wilson, and while the movie is
highly fictionalized, the real story is pretty crazy on its own. Many of
the best stories were off the record, but suffice it to say that
Internet porn was the Wild West back in the day.
Mallick’s genius was to provide credit card processing for the porn
sites, and at one point his company was moving well over 2 BILLION
dollars a year. Now Mallick is out of that business – he’s a film
producer today, and has a very cool sounding horror movie in the works
(more on that later), but his time in the adult entertainment world
earned him plenty of cash.
I look forward to getting some on the record interview time with Mallick
– you’ll be surprised at the role he played in the 9/11 investigation,
all through his porn processing biz – but in the meantime check out this
trailer.
Middlemen is out August 6th.
