Adam Gierasch’s remake of Night of the Demons isn’t making it to theaters. E1 Entertainment has revealed via its website that the film will heading straight to DVD and Blu-Ray on October 19th. It’s not a good sign for the quality of the film, which was shot in 2008 and supposed to be released theatrically last year.
The remake follows the same basic plot of the first, where a bunch of friends go to a party in an old house with a history (this time a mansion) and get locked inside, transforming into demons one by one and attacking their friends. It stars Diora Baird, Shannon Elizabeth, Monica Keena, Edward Furlong and Tiffany Shepis. (One of those things is not like the other!)
Of course, this is the moment where I stop you and say that it’s necessary for you to watch the original, that you should have seen it already, that it should already be warm and snug in your collection alongside its contemporaries like Return of the Living Dead and Night of the Creeps. It’s also where I plead for some intrepid distributor to release the original on blu-ray. Really, it’s one of the more underrated 80s horror films, still a complete, gory blast.

This one looked like it had promise between the covers of Fango. Maybe direct to video isn't a bad thing and perhaps it'll start a trend of remakes getting the same treatment. I'd hate to see a Fright Night remake in theaters so maybe from here on out it's all DTV.

I was at the premiere of this last year at London's FrightFest. One of the worst films I saw there (and i watched over 25). Fat Edward Furlong – nuff said.
This film is a must see, unless it's made without the proper titty quotient.

Actually, it's not a sign of anything, except maybe the typical ham-fisted studio bungling. TRICK 'R TREAT suffered the same fate with Warner Bros (two years on the shelf before going to DVD) and there were no "quality" issues there.
Shame, really, as this was probably the only remake I WOULD have paid to see in theatres – well played, E1.
Diora Baird is purty.
DTV is starting to get better, Hills Run Red was a blast, Lost Boys 2 (in terms of an ample budget, NOT QUALITY!), so this isn't automatically a bad thing. I think it's just that horror is starting to wind down again and producers don't have as much confidence as they did two or so years ago.
return of the living dead and night of the demons are a total blast to watch, but night of the creeps is a total joyless piece of shit to sit through…the gore factor is lame, the monsters look lame, and the pacing slow as hell..the lead girl is quite fetching though
Too bad it's not going to theatres, but I'm glad it's finally going to be coming out so that all can see it.
