I’m throwing this onto the rumor pile, simply because unlike Nick or Devin, I’m not privy to the inner workings of this thing. But the news is coming from THR.com’s Heat Vision, which ain’t exactly Joe Shmoe’s Blog on NeverHeardOfIt.com. Plus, this may have been a foregone conclusion since Guillermo Del Toro left the project. Anyway, Heat Vision is reporting that Peter Jackson is in talks to direct The Hobbit himself.
Reportedly, Warner Bros. and New Line, who are in charge of the production with MGM, never bothered with a full-on search for a new director because they always had Jackson in their sights. So for some this may be a welcome surprise; for others, an inevitability or even old news. But there you have it.

Yeah, I'm that guy.
But… this movie still isn't happening, right? For the record, this is the only director that I would be happy with for this movie. Nine years ago was a beautiful, happy time for cinema.
Yeah… It's really the only way this should go at this point. This is the best way to insure that both Del Toro's ideas are well handled and the film itself is of a comparable quality to the other films.
While I understand that Pete may not want to direct and immerse himself like he did with LOTR, it still doesn't feel right if he isn't director for The Hobbit.
Oh goody. More overindulgent slow motion, miles of cut footage, and scenes of hobbits crying. I was soo looking forward to Del Toro directing. I don't know if I'll be interested in this now.
