The rumor has been floating about for a while, but now it is a reality: Tommy Lee Jones will be in Captain America: The First Avenger.
Marvel sent over a press release confirming that Jones will play Colonel Phillips in the film. What does he do?
Says Marvel: In the early comics, Phillips recruited Steve Rogers to join Project Rebirth, the secret experiment that created the Super Soldier known as Captain America. The character will be updated for the film.
I imagine this means that Phillips will be sort of Cap’s liaison guy – the dude who gives him missions and stuff. At least, that’s my based-on-nothing guess.
What a great cast for this movie though, huh? Chris Evans as Cap, Tommy Lee Jones, Hugo Weaving and Stanley Tucci. I’m psyched.

Despite growing a fondness for Evans over the past couple of years, I still can't buy him as Cap. Evans is so good at being funny that I'm afraid they're gonna try to use him to make him just like RDJ.
Here's my guess: This will be the next Star Trek where even though the script is lackluster, the charisma of the cast pulls it all off.
again, what about the script? you once said it was terrible — any news on that? did they manage to improve it at least one bit..?
The director is lousy hack as well.
Who plays the love interest for Cap? There's always a love interest. I mean, how else are you going to get women into the seats?
Definitely great casting. I'm excited.
And Dominic Cooper, Toby Jones, and Neal McDonough!
I second the concern of #1. Jones is totally willing to sign onto shitty films for cash dollars. He admits it in interviews, even. I mean…MEN IN BLACK II, DOUBLE JEOPARDY, MAN OF THE HOUSE, SMALL SOLDIERS, THE MISSING, THE HUNTED, RULES OF ENGAGEMENT…VOLCANO, BATMAN FOREVER, U.S. MARSHALS…um…this man is no arbiter of quality these last twenty years or so.
I want to know are they going to include the Truth storyline in Cap?
Except for Chris Evans as CapAm, it is a truly great cast! Oh wait, the Captain America role is kind of importat to the film, isn't it? Well, we'll just have to forget about Cap being a hard, rugged American hero, and think of him more as a snarky, egotistical prettyboy…
Devin didn't like Star Trek's script either, but it worked despite that… thanks in part to great casting.
I remember when Tommy Lee Jones was cool for about 18 months in the mid 90s. His appearance as Two Face in Batman Forever has to be the worst comic villain performance of all time. That being said this sort of cameo should be right in Jone's wheel house and shouldn't require any heavy lifting.
#4 – Joe Johnston may not be the best director in the world, but I would by no means call him a "hack." You can tell the guy has a passion for movies, no matter how his own turn out.
Don't be concerned about the script, people. There's plenty of time for a revolving door of script doctors to polish it to the highest sheen. Of course, that does nothing to fix Evans being horribly miscast as Cap…
See Chris Evans in Sunshine. As Devin himself has said, he has some serious dramatic chops and also has that wonderful all-American look.
Tommy Lee Jones redeemed himself in my eyes after No Country for Old Men, so I'm quite excited.
