There was a test screening of Let Me In, the remake of Let the Right One In directed by Cloverfield‘s Matt Reeves, this week in LA. A fairly negative review popped up on Ain’t It Cool, but that review went against what I heard from more than a few people I trust who were at the screening. Basically these folks told me that not only did Reeves ‘get it’ but that this film announces him as a really interesting visual filmmaker to watch.
The trailer for the movie has arrived, giving the rest of us our first glimpses at the movie, which has moved the action to the mountains of New Mexico. Stylish and graceful, the trailer gives real hope. I am a little concerned that a few moments look shot-for-shot from Tomas Alfredson’s original, but I’m going to wait to see more before beating that drum. In the meantime I’m going to take solace in the fact that Let Me In looks to be gorgeous.

I disagree completely. I for one thought that the original was a pretentious, poorly made adaptation of a fantistic book. I felt extremely dissapointed and angry at the fact that the filmmakers let such a fantastic oppurtunity go to waste. Hopefully this will be the true adaptation i've been waiting for
Meh. Despite the hard pimping from Devin there is literally no reason for this remake. Is it that hard to read subtitles?
Eh, this could go either way. I like that it seems like that they kept the fact that the boy is a knife-wielding psycho-in-training, and the innocent sexual undertones to the kids' relationship, but I'm deeply concerned it's going to just be a beat-for-beat retread, despite Reeves' insistence he only made the movie because there was stuff from the book that the Swedish filmmakers cut out and that he wanted to see dramatized. I guess we'll see.
If Matt Reeves pulls it off, I will pull it out. Still haven't watched the original, as I was told the subtitles were retarded.
I didn't get much of a "New Mexico" vibe from the scenery and setting from this trailer. I hope it actually feels like it is set there. So few films are and it is a unique place, but it looks like it's just filling in for a generic wintry clime set.
One day I'll finish Let The Right One In, I'm on my fourth attempt watching it. it's just been a very tedious film to enjoy.
I didn't really see what the big deal was about the original and this one only looks less impressive. To each his own, I guess.
You are high! That trailer looks like crap. I don't see anything in there outside of the morse code card at the end that indicates this film will demonstrate any of the subtleties of the story. Even if Reeves gets lucky, like Zach Snyder before him, he will prove that without a template of what came before, once he strays into territory that requires his own personal vision, he will fail.
It shouldn't be considered a remake just because some other director got to the source material first. It's just a second adaptation. After all, no one will consider the inevitable future versions of LotR remakes.

The trailer actually looks pretty good. I'm surprised. I hope the movie turns out to be as good as the original.
Look, Let The Right One In was good but it was a little slow-paced and frankly boring. The young actors were amazing but the film could have used a little….pizazz. Ok that sounded pretty fucking gay but you get what I'm saying. This looks like the right way to do a remake as it seems faithful to the first film while also bringing a sense of horror and dread that I felt the original was lacking. It'll be interesting to see how they change the final scene as I thought the way that pool scene was shot was one of the coolest things I've ever seen. I also love the two young actors they chose in the remake.
That trailer looks good, the child actors look right for their characters, and I remain hopeful about this new adaptation. Also, Fuck the haters. Go watch Blade Trinity you "the original film was tedious and slow-paced" retards.

Christ on a bike. Do we have to either love or hate the original? I enjoyed the original, atmsopheric, ambient, the performances, the cinematography, the CG cats. BUT I could never be THAT passionate about it. It was a mood piece, and I dig on story most. This remake looks very similar, but I could be convinced to see it at some point if it does indeed include interesting things the original left out.
People get so huffy about remakes. I guess you need some sort of unnuanced identity, huh? Judge the film on its merits not the fact it is a remake. I think it looks interesting and Matt Reeves speaks in interviews with real reverence for the material. The American movie is supposed to be a lot more connected to the book than Let The Right One In, that alone makes it worthy of existing.

It's little more than a shot for shot remake of the first film. And if anything, it's less faithful than the original film was.
I would hardly call this trailer "graceful" with that awful music, but it certainly wasn't a bad trailer on the whole. I'm pretty optimistic about this and don't really mind if a few of the broad strokes are different in this version than the previous one. In fact, I'm intrigued to see how some of the changes (according to the AICN review those would mainly be Hakan/Eli's relationship, Eli's gender, and a few other minor things) are going to shift the story.

The subtitles were bad for the first release of the film on DVD. The newer version and the version available on Netflix instant watch both have updated subtitles that are a vast improvement over the old ones.
Looks more like 30 Days of Night than Let the Right One In. The girl playing Eli does not look androgynous enough. "From the director of Cloverfield" doesn't inspire much confidence either.
So remakes are pointless, eh? That makes damn near all great paintings from the last thousand years worthless pieces of shit. Oh except for the very first painting of a guy sitting in a chair. That was original and worth a damn. Now I'm gonna go try and buy the entire wall that Da Vinci's Last Supper is on so I can destroy it because it's a worthless repaint.

It's kinda funny how people refuse to admit that at the very least, this looks pretty decent. It's like if they say anything positive about this remake, then the original will just just disappear.

Mark my words, this is going to be better than the original – like Snyder's Dawn of the Dead. Both the original DotD and LtROI were excellent films, good enough to glaze over their inadequacies. However I strongly suspect that after viewing Let Me In the CGI cat attack will seem like the motorcycle gang pie fight. Still, there will be purists who cling to the original no matter how superior the remake so I'm sure this film will be polarizing. In any case I don't think it's a mortal sin to remake a foreign film to make a great story accessible to wider audiences, even if it is a virtual shot-for-shot remake inferior to the original, a la Quarantine.
The trailer looks awfull. The two leading actors (mrs. Moretz in particular) look like perfectly groomed stupid Hollywood puppets. The rest looks cheap, fast and shallow. So…….everything the mainstream US audiences need to be satisfied is there. The good thing of course is that nobody has to read subtitles.
Is there anyone who realizes how beautifull the Swedish language sounds? 'Let The Right One In'doesn't deserve remake. It is perfect the way it is. One of the most beautifull movies ever made. Reeves found an easy way to make a quick buck by copying the original. What an incredibly pathetic thing to do.
I love the original, when I first heard they were making an american version i was kinda shocked it would be so soon, i guess u gotta strike while the irons hot. I'd wait a couple years more then go for it. With all that being said the trailer looks interesting, and I will for sure go watch it just to see if any things really all that different. I'm not to sure Hit Girl makes a good hungry vampire, she looks a bit polished.
I read the book before watching the first film and to be frank i was not impressed at all. I hope this could be an improvement but i doubt it.
