Just caught the new trailer for the Emma Stone comedy, Easy A, which is now over at YouTube. Got to say it looks pretty good. Nice to see that there’s still a movie that takes place in a high school that doesn’t immediately make you want to be watching something else, anything else…like the latest BP oil spill footage from the bottom of the sea or something. The plot concerns Olive Penderghast (Stone), a nobody in high school whose social standing takes a giant leap forward after a little lie about losing her virginity leads her to parallel her life to Hester Prynne from The Scarlet Letter (hence the A), which she’s currently studying in school.
Bert V. Royal scripted the film, and TV vet, Will Gluck (Andy Richter Controls the Universe, Grosse Pointe) directed. Penn Badgley, Thomas Haden Church, Patricia Clarkson, Cam Gigandet, Lisa Kudrow, Malcolm McDowell, Alyson Michalka and Stanley Tucci co-star. And this may be one of the last chances you get to see veteran actress Amanda Bynes, who will soon be retiring from acting.

I didn't laugh once.
"A high-end stripper. Like the kind for governors."
Heehee, okay, this might be good. I'm not sold, but I'm interested in finding out more about it.
Is Amanda Bynes retiring from acting because she is going into porn? If so, good call. Oh wait, she's "retiring" because she's a "musician", right? Yeah, we'll see you in a few years on Cinemax Amanda. Just remember, you brought this on yourself. And not in the "I'm going to prove I'm a serious actress by getting naked in Havoc" kind of way but in the "I have no career left and spent all of my money on blow" way. As for Emma Stone, I have enjoyed all three movies I have seen her in.
I'm not sold (I'm a little out of this film's demographic, I think), but it is nice to see a teen movie that's obviously (A) trying and (B) not brain-dead. Kids deserve so much more than Hollywood shovels up for them.
A? Meh, maybe a C+
What the fuck happened to Amanda Bynes face? Does she have a boxing career in Mexico no one knows about? Yeesh.
