Everything in this article is a spoiler… but for only the first few minutes of Transformers 3. No major plot points are revealed. No massive secrets are given away. What I am about to tell you is a cool thing that opens the film in a surprising way. If you already know you’re going to see Transformers 3, skip this article. Enjoy the surprise on the day of release. If you’re on the fence or think you might skip Transformers 3, read on to see that perhaps there’s an interesting spark of an idea at the center of this movie. Will that spark mean Transformers 3 will be any good? I don’t know, but it’s certainly got a great start.
It’s your last chance.
Here goes. Swipe to read:
There’s a disturbance on the Moon. A robot shaped disturbance. Scientists on Earth see this and the information gets passed up the chain of command. In the White House men in black suits are breathlessly running through the halls, and they burst into the Oval Office. The president is behind the desk, back turned to the door, looking out the window. One of the men tells the president, ‘Sir, something’s happened on the Moon!’ The president turns around.
It’s John F. Kennedy.
Yes, the opening scene of Transformers 3 takes place in 1961 or 1962. The gist of the story has to do with the Transformers’ involvement in the space race, and this is the reason why JFK was so hot to make sure America was first to the Moon. It sounds like a fun direction; there are a lot of stupid conspiracy theories about Neil Armstrong et al meeting ETs on the Moon, and this is a fun way to play with them. I hear this was Spielberg’s idea, and it really does sound like something he’d come up with. If you’re like me and you like the Spielberg-influenced Transformers but hate the mostly Spielberg-free Transformers 2, this is all good news.

This does sound fun, if a little Watchmen-inspired.
I did actually enjoy the first film, flaws aside. The second one was just a loud, rascist mess. However after spending my hard-earned cash on 2, it will take nothing short of a miracle to get my bum on a seat for 3 (it's in 3D?!?!? Gasp! TICKET SOLD!!!)
Unless they can digitally remove Michael Bay's direction I'll be giving this one a pass.
"You're in a lot of trouble now, Scott." "Yeah, a whole *lot* of trouble…"
"Wait a minute, I have another movie I wanna do where these guys- "
So…is the Moon a Transformer? Is it Unicron? If the Moon starts talking like Orson Welles, I will watch this thing three times on opening day. And I HATED the last one.
Part 1 was just as stupid as Part 2, but keep telling yourselves it wasn't
Yea, this is exactly the kind of baby-boomer-tastic jackoffery that Spielberg would hurl out.
Where did you find the info, Sir?
I like it – now if the other 95 minutes can hold up we may have something.
TF2 was no more loud and racist then the crank films and tropic thunder and hangover. that being said apart from the loudness, the humor really wasn't necessary to the material. but the internet just needs to be honest about what's wrong with the movie instead of the hyperbole the scream in hopes the producers start listening to them. they scream offensive then they go and celebrate the newest episode of southpark/family guy.
Ah, so that vehicle they used to get around…that was ahem ahem?
So, does Megatron go old school and turn into Lee Harvey Oswald's rifle or something? Y'know, part 2 had a cool opening too. What good is 5 cool minutes at the beginning though when the next 2 and a half hours were pure ass? At least part 2 has lowered our expectations for part 3 tremendously, so even if it isn't great, it will still seem a lot better than what came before.
I agree with post #1. I enjoyed the first one and the second one just gave me a headache. This one sounds like they might have actually written a…what's it called? It's on paper and it has the lines on it….a….script….maybe?
So they're calling back to the very first teaser trailer for the plot? Interesting.
I hate both these movies with a passion. This sounds just as bad as the others. If you like these movies you are human driftwood.
the MIB can run down the hallway and burst into the office ala Jeff Goldblum in The Right Stuff- which Bay already cribbed the every-loving-fuck out of in that movie with the asteroid and the *yawn* other crap.
Transformers2 is not bad at all. It's the editing that should have been better, there are missing scenes and anyone could easily figure that out from the editing itself just while watching the movie.
Even the Bumblebee and Sam talking in the garage got trimmed down, that scene was longer and better and the full version was released by Michael Bay himself on his own website around February/March2009 at 1080p high bitrate H264 L5.1 encoded… So..
Just think a bit about how much Paramount obliged Bay to cut from the movie.
It's like watching Watchmen theatrical and Watchmen Director's Cut movies.. the theatrical is still good but it's not perfect as the full Director's Cut one.
If you enjoyed the first or second one you are a fuckhole with no taste in movies. These are loud dumb noisy pictures. Even though they are based on an idiotic idea the films manage to make them even dumber. In fact if you liked either of these movies you are probably reading this right now, mouth breathing, drool slowly dripping down the side of your chin, trying to mash your fucking retarded fingers on the keyboard in an attempt to create a sentence but keep getting distracted by shiny things. In other words if you liked either of these movies you are fucking stupid on levels you cannot comprehend.
Wow Chudfan, you're AWESOME!
Too bad you called yourself all those classy descriptions too though, huh? You've seen both movies (don't lie to us and say you haven't), and you wouldn't have seen the second if you hated the first so much…so there you go brainiac! Glad to have you in the club!
#17 – yes… anyone who disagrees with you must be retarded. it all makes perfect sense now.
Can I get some goddamn Dino Bots this round?
SET VISIT!
sure there is obvious flaws in the movies but its FUCKING TRANSFORMERS AND ITS FUCKING AWESOME. criticizing dickheads! haters go die. especially if you like twilight, then you can die twice as hard.
I think TF2 is possibly one of the worst big budget blockbusters ever made, and even I think Chudfan is a douche.
I KNEW Bruce Greenwood would finally get a 13 Days sequel someday! Just didn't know it was going to be a sequel on top of a sequel as in this case. Now, if Bay can just kill off the Twins in scene 2 of this movie I will see this flick ten times in the theater.
Hey guys, what we talking about?…am I late?…what's going on?…
I wish people would just shut the fuck up about this. If you didnt like the movies then why the fuck do you come here? Go fuck yourselves.
this actually makes quite a bit of sense, if you look back at transformers 2 Simmons states that he always wanted to be an astronaut and they make a point of showing the lunar lander and the space shuttle. I think this would make a great evolution to the story though i fear that if its in the movie its going to be a minor story ark rather than a major part of the story.
both transformer movies were great! and i will keep telling mysel fthat b/c that is my opinion. whoever says both were bad, a challenge all to make a better ones, til then, shut your pie holes. pt.2 yeah, did a lot without really sticking to anything. it was a few minutes in one thing and then to the next without really getting into it. but do remember this haters. this movie was written during the writers strike, and when shia broke his hand in a dui, bay had to rush things. a lot of scenes which read real awesome, had to be cut due to budget restrictions. the constructicons were suppose to transform b4 forming devastator, and one of them was suppose ot say, constructicons, unite. so despite everything, rotf came out pretty good.
There are some seriously bitter and negative people commenting on this article. Transformers 1, with a $150million budget, grossed over $709million worldwide and Transformers 2, with a $200million budget, grossed over $836million. So, if you're on the "Transformers movies suck" bandwagon, then you're obviously in the extreme minority, which inherently means no one gives a shit about your opinion, ever. So, do us all a favor and shut your pie hole.
Well I would like to start off by saying Hal hartly is a fag. second I would like to say that the 2nd one was rushed and had alot of problems with it. Now they are actually taking their time and doing it right. This is hopefully going to be as good as the first one amazing.
The guy who wrote the article is stupid
Here's my question:
If all these people that wrote such mean and nasty comments hate these movies so much, WHY ARE THEY COMMENTING ON THIS FAN SITE? Aren' there enough sites devoted to "cinema" for you to get positively involved in something? To devote youself to denigrating something that all the folks on here njoyed, or at the very least paidfor, shows that you are more interested in being the center of attention than in the good or bad points of a specific movie. For myself, I paid for my admission knowing I was not getting "Citizen Kane", or even "As Good As It Gets". I was going to get loud noise, explosions, and maybe be diverted for a couple of hours. It's called ENTERTAINMENT ! It's also why Baskin and Robbins is an institution: 31 flavors! There's something out there for everyone. We don't insist your "art" movies have to have explosions. Why do you insult us because we like "pop" entertainment? And, BTW, I'll pay for Transformers 3 TWICE, just to make sure they make 4 !
i luv transformers.
cant wait for sound wave to get into action.
Living in Chicago, I've been privy to watching a lot of scense filmed and let me tell you, this movie looks AWESOME! They are performing some of the coolest stunts I have ever seen.
i totally agree with comment 26…stfu! TF3 is gonna rock!!!! i dont find them making flaws..they have talent to do this all, id like to see ppl make transformers like that then make a comment…i seen the movie and im obsessed! i got a poster board wal mart was gonna throw out of bumblebee! -.- i rock out tf stuff all over my apt and imma chick lol…bb and prime and iron hide are my fave…dont diss something if u dont like it. dont even read if u want to say crude things. transformers is something i grew up with in the 80's…they rock out loud!!!!
i dont understand the concept of saying the TF movies were garbage… what in your opinion was a good movie? titanic? what does it take to entertain you? saw 1-6? But hey there's always people who actually think gone with the wind is watchable, and that the dark knight was overrated. People are just way too picky these days, go watch an 80's movie then come back in retrospect.
If #3 can put together all the strengths and none of the weaknesses of the first 2 we will have a pair of floaties for this sinking franchise.
If T3 is going to be dealing with space exploration, it would be a travesty if the writers don't include Sky Lynx. For God's sake Sky Lynx IS A SPACE SHUTTLE!! Or maybe for big kicks Omega Supreme?
And nasalhair is correct, if you all didn't like Revenge of the Fallen, then obviously you all HAVE NO CLUE what the story dealt with. There was a purpose in the Matrix of Leadership and Bay and the writers did a good job in updating it from the '85 animated film.
By nature men are more interested in the question What to do?, And women – Who's to blame?
