THR.com reports that Oscar winning writer, Chris McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects) is in talks to rework the script for Paramount’s thriller, One Shot, with a possibility of also directing. The project is based on a series of novels written by Lee Child that
center on Jack Reacher, a military police officer-turned-drifter. One
Shot, the ninth book in the series, tells the story of a military
sniper accused of murder who seeks Reacher’s help. If McQuarrie directs as well, it would be the first time since his The Way of the Gun in 2000.
McQuarrie most recently wrote the script for the upcoming Johnny Depp / Angelina Jolie thriller, The Tourist. He also wrote Valkyrie and the X-Men Origins: Wolverine sequel script. He also created the TV show, Persons Unknown. His upcoming projects include Jack the Giant Killer and No Man’s Land.

The Way of the Gun is a brilliant film, even though the tone of the first 10 minutes has nothing to do with the rest of the film and the anti-heroes, despite being felled by ten thousand bullets, ask questions about shit they couldn't possibly care about (considering that they are dying in pools of their own blood) for sub-plot expository reasons. Still, worth a look if you're interested in something that willfully subverts the genre.
Um… There has to be more to this plot that a rehash of Shooter…
I would love to see a Jack Reacher movie. Great character. Good luck casting him, though. You need a real tough looking guy, very miiltary. I doubt he'll be 6'5" since there are barely any actors that are nearly that tall. Wouldn't be shocked if they went for a foreigner for this one, too. Just don't let it be Gerard Butler, I have yet to buy an American accent from him.
I've always pictured George Clooney in this role
There is so much more to the Reacher novels than a plot description suggests. They are full of those great Red Dragon/Silence of the Lamb kind of twists and reveals. I give them my highest recommendation. Who can play Reacher? Clancy Brown?
