It’s been ten long years (not including what feels like a dozen Scary Movie films) since he’s been spotted. Can Ghostface be made into a frightening villain once again?
Scream 4 is on track for an April 15th, 2011 release date.

Sure. Invoke the scary tone of part 1, or the scary/comedic tone of part 2 and you're onto a winner. Go ANYWHERE near the tone of part 3? And prepare to flush that turd down the toilet again…
I never found the mask scary in the original movies, i dont think anyone found them scary. The scary stuff was the unknown voice on the phone playing with the girl, a girl who knows the killer is out or inside the house and killing her boyfriend. The mask just makes me think "BOOOO".
Unfortunately Ghostface has been caricatured to the point of hilarity by the Scary Movie films. I hope (and expect) that Scream 4 begins with an insanely brutal, satanic type murder with 'Shining' amounts of blood. I'm not sure it will work though.
Good point. The ghostface design was really cool and was quite effective, at least in the first movie. Not sure it shouldn't have been redesigned… hell, I've got a picture of my three-year-old wearing one of these and running around in diapers. Not scary.
FYI, I just Twittered "Whoooo Caaaares?"
Was ghostface ever a frightening villain?
I still haven't seen the 3rd film and I was the target age for the first 2 when they came out. I don't know who they are aiming this film at.
No
The answer is: No.
As much as I loved Scream, the one thing that pissed me off is that I had one of those masks for several years before it came out. I liked to break it out now and then and scare my friends. Then Scream comes out and RUINS it. Great movie, though.
At # 7:
Um, horror fans?
The Screams were entertaining enough, but the Ghostface killer just isn't scary. To me anyway.
Neve Campbell will be the killer.
Ghostface itself isn't scary, but the concept of a killer harassing you over a phone and then running after your ass because he's just a regular guy IS. WTF is with the comment verification.
I think there should be a big opening killing a very well known actress (like screams DREW BARRYMORE) maybe like Amanda Seyfreid or Scarlott johanson…thats unlikely though…but would make higher rated!
I'm sure Scre4m or whatever they end up calling it will make decent money, but I don't believe many people are into that whole self-referential/teeny-bopper horror phase anymore. Sure, it helped reinvigorate a sagging horror film industry nearly 15 years ago, but that type of Dawson's Creek/I Know What You Did Last Summer-type fim is so tired. And looking back at the actual Scream films….they're not really that good. The first one has 2 "classic" scenes: the scene where Jamie Kennedy explains the "rules" of surviving a horror movie, and the intense opening scene with Drew Barrymore and the Ghostface killer. The rest of the film is pretty mediocre, though, and the other 2 films added nothing new. After being spoofed so completely by several films, I can't really see how this 4th film can take itself seriously or bring anything interesting to the rather tired series.
