While Nick and Devin have both seen Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World multiple times (Nick’s resoundingly positive thoughts here), I have not been able to do so, and remain as impatiently excited as most of you. I haven’t gotten around to reading the source material yet, but if Edgar Wright wasn’t enough to sell me, the trailers have done a fantastic job of perking interest. Universal continues that streak of fun marketing (that as far as I can tell, really gets the film it’s promoting) with this interactive trailer below, skinned in a delightful and detailed 8-bit interface (love the sound effects- make sure you pause at some point). There’s a ton of information, and it gives me a lot of hope that the Scott Pilgrim DVD will end up being a really special experience, if they’re putting this much effort into a trailer.
Monkey around with that for a moment, and let your impatience spike. There’s only a week more to wait, but it’s going to be a long one.
Theaters will be carefully blowing on their reels of Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World (website) and gently inserting them into projectors on August 15th. Cross your fingers they don’t have to bust out the rubbing alcohol and Q-Tips.

I think many people will be dissapointed in the impact of this film. It won't even debut @ #1 for the weekend, and it actually looks like boring crap
I have no idea what trailers you've seen and what the hell you're even talking about (I can't see whatever it is you're embedding), but every single TV commercial I've seen for Scott Pilgrim has been absolute crap. As much as I'm looking forward to the movie and as much as I'm sure it'll be great, the ads have done nothing by lower my expectations. I can't even imagine what sort of effect they'd have on the average rabble who aren't familiar with SP or Edgar Wright.
Both of the people above me are wrong. The TV spots and the trailers are awesome and that Itrailer above is tops. Seriously, it's tremendous.
Oh yeah Tony, Scott Pilgrim will be held as one of the best films of this decade when it's all said and done. It's that good. Who cares about the box office when this movie literally moves the needle on these type of films. And yes I have seen it.
Other than financiers and exhibitors, who gives a damn how much a movie makes? Doesn't affect my opinion of a movie in the least if it opens at #1 or #11.
Has there been an evening since Comic-Con when Scott Pilgrim WASN'T playing someplace for free? Seems like anyone that actually wanted to see the film would have done so by now – meaning it won't make a dime.
My guess: 21mil opening, but less than a 50% drop for the next weekend. Good home video sales. Eternal Sunshine levels of people liking it.
Seriously, if this garbage beats out The Expendables in the box office I will give up all hope for humanity.
Everybody's a fucking box office expert these days. What are you, accountants? Can't you just enjoy it for what it is, and if not then why are you posting about it how boring it looks every time an article for it pops up? Nerds.
Comment #3—If it doesn't make money, it doesn't move the needle on shit. It might be successful, but if it isn't, studio types aren't going to be like "You know that movie that didn't make any money? All other movies of it's type should be just like it. We should really follow the Scott Pilgrim model". Box office determines a lot, which is why we're not hearing of all kinds of "Kick-Ass" clones being lined up for next year, even though Internet folks seemed to be jizzing themselves over THAT particular film.
It does feel a lot like all the hype before Firefly, and we all know how that turned out. All the Whedon fanatics couldn't save it, and had already seen it for free.
If Joe Hallenbeck is insinuating that The Expendables will be anything other than garbage, I will lose all hope in humanity. Just a bunch of geriatric morons trying to bring back the glory days, Stallone being the worst.
Opening #3 behind eat pray queef and expendables.
Shame
I'm sure we'll get a crybaby Advocate about why box office doesn't matter once this movie bombs. Gotta love talentless hacks thinking making 8-bit music is some kind of fucking art form.
