Machete Maidens is the newest documentary from Mark Hartley, who brought us the fantastic Not Quite Hollywood: The Wild, Untold Story of Ozploitation! in 2008, which gave us a detailed glimpse into the world of Aussie exploitation cinema.
This new film promises to bring the same skilled documentarian eye to the cinema of the Philippines in the late 70s and early 80s, a time when revolution was found in schlock cinema, rather than the streets.
If you haven’t caught Not Quite Hollywood (and the 30+ films you’ll have to see as a follow up) then get on it, because your plate is about to get much heavier when Machete Maidens Unleashed comes your way. The film is making its way through festivals now.

i totally recognized one of those movies, it was ruggero deodato's RAIDERS OF ATLANTIS, I watched that like three weeks ago. I think another might have be FOR YOUR HEIGHT ONLY.

I love movies. Exploitation films are something that you either appreciate or you don't. If you don't like it, go back to your Iron Man 2.

I managed to catch the premiere screening of this at the Melbourne International Film Festival (with Mark Hartley and producer Veronica Fury – awesome name, no? – in attendance). I've posted a review here:
