I have a hard time imagining that the studio bean-crunchers are eager to do a Hellboy 3, given that Hellboy just barely managed to squeeze out Hellboy 2, which, while an artistic high point for the superhero genre, didn’t exactly set the box office on fire. But let’s pretend for a moment that someone is standing outside Guillermo del Toro’s house with a giant sack of money with “Hellboy 3” written on it. What’s the hold up? GDT tells MTV:
“You know, I think that everyone should ask Ron [Perlman],” said del Toro. “I had dinner with [Perlman] last night. He said ‘six hours [in the makeup chair], what do you want?'” And he’s doing ‘Sons of Anarchy’ without makeup. He’s spoiled! He likes to be the big cheese without the makeup session.”
GDT is obviously just joking around here. My headline is total bs. Forgive me. What I do think is of some interest though is what GDT and Hellboy creator Mike Mignola say about a hypothetical third film:
“I would love to do it,” continued del Toro. “But the heartbreak for me is that I know how it ends and I don’t know if I want to see that ending.”
Mignola’s take: “The problem is, what del Toro’s talked about to me is that ‘Hellboy III’ would be the end of Hellboy,” said Mignola. “And here’s where we have the big conflict. My Hellboy is not going to have kids. My Hellboy is going to die, but I want to be the one who does that. And if del Toro does my ending, there won’t be a lot of surprise when I get to the end of the comic.”
Ignoring any realities of studio interest, personally I’d rather see GDT working on other things than Hellboy 3. I think he came and did what he set out to do with Hellboy 2, now he has other mountains to tackle… if ya get what I’m sayin’.

Someone needs to pony up the cash to buy MGM and then you can have your mountains, Mr. Miller. As for Hellboy 3, yes please. Maybe they can use a CGI "suit" for Ron Perlman similar to what is being done for the Green Latern film? Say goodbye to the makeup chair.
I'd say just go all balls out with a full animated film. Perlman doesn't have to sit on a make-up chair, Del Toro gets to finish the trilogy in a crazy unrestrained medium that isn't cost-prohibitive for the visuals unlike live-action, and we get an awesome Hellboy film. Everybody wins. Yes, they made the direct-to-video animated films, but this would be one with a real budget and with Del Toro at the helm.
Yes, now that Cameron is producing At the Mountains of Madness, Del Toro needs to stop thinking about anything else and devote all his energy towards that. I want that movie to happen with every fiber of my being.

Yes @ Hell Goy. Also, in an interview with Mignola, he said that Del Toro kinda ran away with his character…specifically the drunk Manilow scene…and he questioned Del Toro, who basically said 'Don't worry, it'll be great' and lo, it was the stupidest scene in the movie. I do love Del Toro, a lot of his ideas are genius, but it's almost 1:1 for those that work and those that are groan-inducing. As Mignola said in that same interview, a Hellboy movie should be so much more QUIET. Del Toro should just use his considerable clout to champion for Mignola to direct, and he can just do it Watchmen-style, and basically film the comic panels. THAT would be stunning.
Hellboy 2 was so painfully disappointing to watch. The studio gave Del Toro a big budget and allowed him his every excess and the result was a bloated shit-fest of what at the core was a good story. Hes so much better when he's got a limited budget. He also has no business writing anything involving men and women falling in love or having sexual relationships. Hes a big fat nerd and needs to stay away from subjects that big fat nerds have little to no experience with.
I loved Hellboy 2. Loved it. I mean, it's no Devil's Backbone or Pan's Labyrinth, but it's certainly love-worthy. I would love to see Hellboy 3.
Gotta go with Mignola on all-things Hellboy. GDT did the best Hollywood interpretation but it's still a pale ghost of the comics. I say give Perlman his 5 years on TV and a break from the makew-up chair then come back (after Mountains) and see how everyone feels. Perlman's a fit man and age isn't an issue where make-up is concerned, so no big rush.
The Manilow scene was my favorite.
I dunno who these other poster are or what movie was playing in their head while Hellboy 2 was on the screen. It was a monster good flick and the drunken Manilow scene had EVERYONE in the theater howling with good fun laughter. I think the Perlman rumor is just that. His Sons of Anarchy is tanking in popularity and certainly was never anyone's idea of class or a stretch for his acting.
As for At the Mountains of Madness? Please! NO ONE has ever done any justice to Lovecraft in a film, nor can they. It doesn't translate, no way, no how. Cameron just throws money at the screen in bucketfuls. Del Toro makes artistry happen. Unfortunately, neither will work for Lovecraft as part of his ghastly beauty is that there is no "there" there.
Whoever says Hellboy 2 sucked is a fat boring nerd that has no girlfriend, probably lives with the parents and spends too much time on the internet. The Manilow scene was CLASSIC!! Me and the wife loved it. 2 was WAY better than 1….chin up fat boys, get behind 3, don't let it get behind you!!
NO SHIT! That is some of Ron Perlman's BEST work. People need to start appreciating Ron and Doug more. Who ever is not liking them, i m going track them down and poking with a really pointy stick. For Hellboy 3, they should come back to work at the Beauru a few years later and find a replacement. Her name should be Catherine Haig. She should fall in love with Abe since Abe can't fall in love with his OWN species if there is any more left! GOD! (I've written about a notebook full of what Hellboy 3 should be like!!
