Case 39 is a newish J-horror-esque flic starring Renée Zellweger, Cradley Booper, and Ian McShane. It was directed by Christian Alvart, who made Pandorum (which I haven’t seen but Netflix thinks I’ll give it 1.5 stars), and written by The Crazies‘ Ray Wright. The film was also released to half the world last year, and the other half earlier this year. It finally finds it way to American theaters in October. America is last?! Don’t they know who we are?! McShane aside, based on the people involved I feel like this movie isn’t going to be any good. But the trailer isn’t half bad. So who knows. Have any of our foreign readers seen this thing? Do us Yanks need to watch Zellweger’s sucking-on-a-lemon face for 90 minutes?

As with so much evil-little-bastard films, there's some potential: Zellweger is not horrible, the kid is genuinely creepy in a couple of scenes and support roles from Mcshane, Cooper and Rennie (as the girls' father) are ok and sometimes even good. But the whole thing ends just being a big bag of 'meh'. These evil kids never seem to do anything really horrific (at least that we see) and when they do all the 'kid-ness' is already taken out of them to prevent it being too shocking. Remember Damien knocking his mother off the balcony in The Omen? That was a little kid doing some horrific shit and still looking like a kid doing it.
is this a joke? joshua, the world stopped caring about this piece of shit about 1 1/2 years ago. writing something about it now is surreal. and dumb.
If you guys get even half the material out of this as you were able to get out of "Orphan" for the podcast, I'm all for it! Here's hoping that Cooper gets the shit killed out of him.

Is that that little girl that came out of the painting to slash throats in the 1st season of Supernatural? That was some scary shit. Also Pandorum was pretty good.
I thought Pandorum was okay. Not a great movie, but fairly entertaining. I think it would've made a better video game than a movie, though.
Pandorum has some problems but is worth checking out.
