Collider has it that the title to the upcoming Karl Urban re-adaptation will simply be called Dredd. No Judge. They also have a synopsis, via IM Global:
DREDD takes us to the wild streets of Mega City One, the lone oasis of
quasi-civilization on Cursed Earth. Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) is the
most feared of elite Street Judges, with the power to enforce the law,
sentence offenders and execute them on the spot – if necessary. The
endlessly inventive mind of writer Alex Garland and the frenetic vision
of director Peter Travis bring DREDD to life as a futuristic neo-noir action film
that returns the celebrated character to the dark, visceral incarnation
from John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra’s revered comic strip.
This follows news from last week that Olivia Thirlby (Juno) has joined the cast, playing a telepathic rookie named Cassandra Alexander who shadows Dredd. Also, Dredd will reportedly keep his helmet on for the entire movie, and will be more faithful to the tone of the comic. Filming is due to begin this fall in Johannesburg for a 2012 release.

They should call it Judge Joe.
They should call it FRANK STALLONE!
I want this flick to be good. I like the casting. I love the writer. Heck, I even love the crew they are gonna shoot the film with. But from the director who made "Vantage point" really stinks it up for me. What a giant pile of shit that movie was. Peter Travis needs to watch Robocop once a day between now and post wraps to get this movie right.
I'll be there opening day, nervously chewing my fingers. The only good thing about the last one was Armand Assante and the ABC robot. Urban is a good choice though. If Mads Mikelsen can blow me away without speaking in Valhalla, then Karl can make it through Dredd with his helmet on. He just has to summon the iron soul and walk of Margaret Thatcher.
Cassandra Alexander? Shouldnt that be Anderson???
is no-one worried at what a small budget, considering its subject matter is, the movie will have?
As we know from the recent trend, nay, REVELATION in advertising, is that the real key to this film's success, the success of any film, is in the STUDIO that brings us the film. I no longer look for the director's name first or the fucking writer or the babe. If it's not the studio who brought me JUNO or THE DEPARTED, Bradley Paul Valentine gets nervous!
Careful Jables, people will think you're being too precious about source fidelity.
I'm bitting my nails on this one and I do not bite my nails. The director is not good and the budget is way too small. Umm, Mega City One is in this movie right? Or will we get Dredd against a cement wall?! Everything else is excellent. Is there a release date set?
I swear you fucking nerds will whine about anything.
