The story has been bouncing around since The Dark Knight. Will Christopher Nolan or won’t Christopher Nolan come back for Batman 3? It’s generally been assumed that that would be the likely scenario, but there’s never been an official announcement. Just a few days ago, we heard that Nolan was working on the script, which we expected even if he didn’t come back to helm. Now Empire has an exclusive take where they speak to the man himself and he leaves little doubt:
“It’s becoming inevitable, I’ll put it that way,” says Nolan. “I
feel myself falling into it, I guess. And getting it all figured out
and I’m pretty excited about what we’re doing so… If I haven’t
announced it, I think that people probably all know at this point that
I’m doing it.”
[Empire] Hang on, that’s not 100% clear: so we can safely assume you’re directing?
“I think you can at this point, yes.
I never really thought that he wouldn’t come back, even after Inception waylaid the planet. The fact that he had parked himself squarely on the Superman franchise as well indicated that he seems to like the thing he has going with the Warners. And his interest in giving them a definitive Batman trilogy didn’t ever appear to be in jeopardy. The guy’s a phenomenal talent and it wouldn’t be inconceivable to me that his films end up vying for the signature incarnation of the character down the line.

Nice write-up, and nice bit of journalism here. You managed to give us your opinion at the end without it coming across as a shrill, self promoting, verbal defecation of the kind Devin served up on a regular basis.
There aren't too many comic book trilogies, let alone trilogies that can boast the director helming all 3 of the movies. I for one am happy about this news and would be hard pressed to find someone who isn't looking forward to him finishing up the Batman trilogy. I am happy with three films if it ends that way. Now we have to see who the protagonist in the third film will be,I'm guessing Catwoman will make an apperance (please cast Eliza Dushku, stat) but I would like to see them dip deep into the rogues gallery and get an off the wall villain, maybe Clayface or Calendar Man ?

An article that celebrates Nolan's talent instead of slobbering over it or baiting people out of maliciousness. I can get used to this.
#4-The Protagonist isn't necessarily always the Hero or "good guy". The term is often applied to the characters with the strongest goal that drive the action of the story. In the Batman Universe that is often the villain.

Great, Nolan does the best Hitchcockian Dark Knight. I cant wait to see if he can top the last one. I only wish he would realize his shortcomings and get somebody to help him make the action a bit more lively and kinetic.

He's getting better with the action scenes with each film. Inception had a killer fight scene with the rotating room.
@ #10 – That was the only great action sequence in a film packed with action sequences. He should swallow his pride and hire a great 2nd unit director to share the workload and help him fully realise his vision.
If only he'd ball up and recast the Joker. That character should never die.
I think the Rogue's Gallery is deep enough, that the Joker doesn't need to be brought back. How about the Riddler? Mad hater? Scarecrow… I'm thinking scarecrow from AA. or the Mad Hater, from TAS.
Don't really want to see Robin or Catwoman.
