People, something amazing has happened- last night’s episode of The Simpsons was actually worth watching!
This had nothing to do with the content of the episode, no, it was simply the opening. British artist Banksy was somehow allowed to storyboard and direct an incredibly dark (and funny) “couch gag” that shows the condition the workers of 20th Century Fox face. Quite impressed that they let this air… could it end up biting them in the ass?
The clip is online right now on Banksy’s Youtube page, check it out below.

Fox probably realized that this would get way, way more attention if they let it become a controversy by trying to stop/censor the show. By just letting it go, it'll probably pass much quicker.
It wasn't realistic… therefore not really all that controversial.. Was it not making fun of perceived conditions in an overseas animation sweatshop, and not really attempting to illuminate any existing conditions… I mean its a joke not some deep dark cynicism.
The Simpsons not being realistic? Get out of town!
It's animated in South Korea not North Korea. The worst they'd get is creepy ghosts whispering in the corridors.
Fox can't take punitive action Groening or THE SIMPSONS for anything they do at this point. The franchise is too big. Can you imagine them taking punitive action against Lucas and STAR WARS? It's like that. Fox has two franchises that it can't control.
Too far. The show did this joke much better almost 20 years ago when Kent Brockman visited the Korean animation house where Itchy and Scratchy cartoons were produced. The animation was simpler and the joke was funnier but had just as much bite. I like the Simpsons/Star Wars analogy someone mentioned. Both are slick and prettier to look at these days. Both totally have lost sight of what they were originally about.
I believe Clerks: The Animated Series did this same joke rather extensively in the first episode that aired on ABC. Granted, not quite as viciously.
It might not be the greatest show of all-time anymore, but it's still better than most of what comes on television. I'd watch simpsons over any of the mcfarlane shows any day.
Please, Family Guy pushes the envelope further than that on almost an episodic basis..
@Makabriel, I almost said, "Perhaps, but Family Guy isn't funny," but then I realized that The Simpsons isn't really funny, either. At least it hasn't been for over a decade.
I've been known to catch The Simpsons about twice a year and I don't hate it. That's really the highest compliment I can give it though. Just be careful to turn the TV off before any of McFarlane's shows come on.
and its already pulled, thanks fox
