Just a quick mention about an interesting bit of cross-promotion Marvel and parent company Disney are doing in preparation for the upcoming Tron Legacy, which opens op December 17th. Marvel is doing Tron-inspired variant covers of a collection of their superheroes, Including Spidey, Cap, Thor, Shellhead, Ghost Rider and Moon Knight among a few others. On a side note, is it me or is Ms. Marvel wearing leopard underwear on the outside of her Tronsuit? And Spider-Woman’s Tronboobs ain’t looking bad.

In anticipation of Walt Disney Pictures’ 3D high-tech adventure, TRON: LEGACY, in theaters on Dec. 17, 2010 — Marvel Comics is proud to announce variant covers celebrating the film. Beginning in November, the Marvel Universe gets “TRON-ified” on selected variant covers featuring Marvel’s biggest heroes—Spider-Man, Iron Man, Captain America, Thor and more—re-interpreted out in the unique visual style of the TRON universe.

Yep. Our fears are already coming true. Cross Promotional whoring between the brands has begun. Wait until POTC4 comes out and all the Marvel characters have to dress like pirates.
OH NOES! They're doing variant covers for cross promotion! The horror! It's the end of Marvel comics as we know it! Except they've ALREADY BEEN DOING cross-promotional variant covers for the last several years. This is no worse than "Zombie" covers or "Vampire" covers or whatever the hell variant cover theme Marvel is doing any given month.
How in the hell is there no Deadpool variant? He's the one character that makes complete sense to totally fuck with when it comes to Marvel's themed variants. In fact, they just did a Deadpool month a little while back where the variants all spoofed whatever was on the cover of the regular books. Also, nowhere in the press release does it mention the actual Tron comic (an *ugh* prequel mini series) that Marvel is currently publishing. Way to drop the ball, Disney.

I'm with #7. Everybody unclench your sphincters and relax – they're just covers. Besides, I'll be the first to say the covers look pretty slick, from an artistic point of view. And…*shock*, they're kinda fun.
But I apologize for steering the Comments section towards something approaching the positive – resume the snark and pessimism, folks.

It's hilarious that most of the comments are just pointless whining about the different variations of imaginary characters and the limitations that they expect to be put on them, or how stupid this site is despite the fact they come back and read it every day, or just plain whining about other people who whine. You guys really are fucking funny! Keep up the great work guys!

If we're calling things terrible, then just fucking shut down the comics industry all together. Talk about a shit factory. Of course they'll spread their legs and dress up like Tronguy in the vain hope of attracting readers who aren't greasy, awful COMICS fans.
