Die Hard is one of those magically consistent franchises. All of the first four have been awesome action movies, albeit in frequently different ways. What started as a very ground, almost realistic series started going way over the top somewhere around the point when Bruce was surfing a cement truck in Die Hard With a Vengeance. Arguably even before that. But at the end of the day, all four films have been shockingly smart and well-made. Even the one directed by that Underworld fucker. If they can keep up the quality, why not go back to the well?

Uhhhhh, no. Die Hard and Die hard With a Vengeance are and always will be the only two real Die Hard films in my opinion. Die Hard 2 does not hold up these days and in fact comes off as one of the worst cash-in movie sequels ever. Compared to the first one, the second film looks like amateur hour. Don't even get me started with Die Hard 4 which is everything that a Die Hard movie shouldn't be. Sure DH and DHWAV have there over the top moments but the characters and situations were grounded in a way that made you feel invested. In Die Hard 2 and 4, I can never get passed all the retarded bullshit that would never happen in real life like taking control of an airport from a church or taking over the country through the internet, WHAT!!! I'm sorry but John McTiernan made Die Hard what it is and no sequel, not even his own DHWAV can compare to the classic that is Die Hard. Sorry about the rant but since Die Hard is my favorite film ever, it really pisses me off when they say the sequels are just as good. They aren't, not by a long shot, and the only one that ever got close was Vengeance. Good day sir.

A few years ago my friend got the 'Return of the Bruno' cd for Xmas. Believe me when i say 1 disc is enough.

Why not go back to the well? The well ran dry about halfway through Die Hard 2. My entire opinion of that movie was demolished by the stupid 'fake' shootout sequence. Like you wouldn't notice that nobody is bleeding after JUST being lit up. Not to mention the plane at the end. DHWaV made up for it a little bit, but then LFDH had to go and nuke the fridge with that stupid jet sequence.

The stupidity of it all is that the McClane of the first movie could easily hold interest as a 60 year old. It's just nobody knows how to write stories that don't bullshit impossible escapes and stunts to try and create excitement (because they don't have the talent to create tension).

I'm tired of people shitting on Die Hard 4 because it's too over the top and then giving Die Hard 3 a pass. In Die Hard McLane falls basically from a bridge onto metal containers ans survives, then survives an explosion that should have desintegrated him. Don't get me wrong, I like the movie (even though it has the absolute worse ended of the series), but for fucks sake it's more far-fetched than any of the other entries…

#10 Of course Die Hard 3 is over-the-top, all action movies are, but at least 3 has some semblance of realism. You are never rolling your eyes as you watch it. That's b/c John McTiernan is a great director who makes it about the characters and the situation, Len Wiseman f/x artist who is all mindless flash. People shit on 4 because is it's a pussy-ass PG-13 superhero movie. That's not a Die Hard movie, it's a special effects extravaganza. And check Die Hard 3's ultra-dark alternate ending; It's so good, and shows the negative side of the test screening process.

Part 4 didn't even feel like a Die Hard movie. I hope they redeem the series with the next one.

I loved the original Die Hard and Live Free or Die Hard (the unrated version). Die Hard 2 was just OK, but Die Hard with A Vengeance is my least favorite. Mainly because I can't stand Samuel L. Jackson, and the action scenes were very unexciting. But to each their own; anyway, I'd rather see Bruce Willis in Die Hard 5 (and 6), than see the series rebooted with some piece of shit like Channing Tatum in the lead.

The original is a classic and widely considered one of the best action films ever, if not THE best. The second is pure garbage, absolute rubbish. The third was almost as good as the first until the beginning of the 3rd act with the looney tunes aqua duct bullshit and then it completely screwed the pooch with that shit ending.

I really wanted Live Free or Die Hard to be good and had it not been a sequel but it's own original entity, it would have been alright. But it was NOT Die Hard. Fuck PG-13s, fuck Super McClane destroying a helicopter with a flying cop car, and fuck Super McClane balancing on the wing of a YF-23. The sequels have forgotten the one thing that made the original so great: it was a "normal" guy in an extraordinary situation, alone and outnumbered. The whole point is that McClane wasn't Rambo.

I hope Bruce either returns McClane to his roots or puts this dog to bed.

Any word on part 4 ever being released on Blu ray? It's out on regular dvd. What gives?
