Earlier today
Chris Evans made his triumphantly photoshop’d debut as a suited Captain
America, and now a number of other photos have emerged from the newest
issue of Entertainment Weekly care of ComicBookMovie, which hits stands on the ‘morrow.
The pictures include yet another demonstration of how holy shit
ripped Chris Evans got for the part, as well a delightfully mad looking
Hugo Weaving as the villainous Hun, Red Skull. The more classic, old
school war costume is also included, with that delightful old shield.
These photos are showing a definite dedication to the comic book,
Marvel-styled aesthetic with the vehicles and laboratory sets, yet feels
genuine and just-this-side of realistic. It’s an impressive balance
they seem to have struck, much more successfully than with Thor, by looks. Check em out and grab em in print tomorrow!

I like Evans, but for some reason he looks a tad freakish in terms of being buffed out – I don't know if it's his head that doesn't look right on that body, or that I just remember him NOT being anything like that in prior roles… Anyhow, looking forward to seeing it. And hopefully there aren't many scenes where he has his shirt off.
ok…this is gonna be pretty fricking cool. I really like how they're going with a type of retro look. I can't wait to see how Weaving looks WITH the skull face, he looks pretty good without it. I don't think Thor will tank but I deft think that Cap will be a bigger hit at the box office.
It's nice to be excited for a Johnston movie. The guy's always been good but has rarely gotten a chance to show it. What I really want out of CAPTAIN AMERICA is the second coming of THE ROCKETEER–take that movie's feel and apply it to a new hero–and some of these photos make me think that that might be exactly why they hired Johnston in the first place.
Definitely think the WWII backdrop was the best way to go with this. Looks pretty great…much better than I would have thought. That said, I think this might struggle at the international box office.
Damn, I can't wait for this movie!
Damn… that was fast!
Looks good though
Original shield and everything….all of a sudden I'm looking forward to Cap as well as Thor.
Bring on 2011 – fingers crossed.
Cool pics. I'm definitely looking forward to this more than any of the other Marvel films. Captain America was one of my favorites as a kid, and Red Skull was a fantastic villain. I can't wait to see how this turns out.
Cautiously optimistic. But the photos look great!
This looks very very good. Bonus that the guy who directed one of my favorite comic book movies of all time 'The Rocketeer' is behind ths.
I dunno, Renn, I think Thor looks just like the Thor comics… but I never liked the Thor comics either. Cap, however, is looking awesome!
Ha. I have a bigger ribbon stack than Captain America, awesome.
This will *not* struggle to get viewers internationally. Those stinky foreigners will pile on top of each other to watch this movie, trust me. They may hate the jocks, but they all go to the games.

Motherfucker is jacked!
@#4 I think that's why it is Captain America: The First Avenger or whatever the hell they're calling it now. Internationally they'll sell the title as "The First Avenger: Captain America" with First Avenger in giant letters. While around this neck of the woods they'll just sell it as plain old Captain America: The First Avenger.
Hugo Weaving looks like he's having fun 😀
Oh sweet Jesus, that picture of him half naked is SO good it gets me all glistening in my pink bits. Out comes my life size replica of Jodie fosters left knuckle. No articles from me for a few days, guys.
anyone else notice the hydra insignia on Red Skull's jacket? Is Hydra a Nazi splinter group or are the Skull's Nazi/Hitler ties being severed?
Wow. These photos really brought out the latents in the crowd.
I'm pumped for this, and as much as I think Evans is good for Cap, Hugo Weaving is perfection for the Red Skull. He plays evil so well. Super Heroes and WWII? Not sure if it's possible to mess this up.
Welcome to my secret lair Mr. Anders…….(ahem)…Mr. Rogers.
This looks really good. I like the retro look…a lot. THOR on the other hand looks like the 80's Flash Gordon and I think it will suck.
