I got (justly to a majority of you) a lot of flak for loving Avatar
as much as I did. How I’ve responded to that flak is by continuing to
watch the film and loving it each time. I’m perfectly content to be
considered a freak for such affections.
As most of you know, there’s a new absolutely stacked Extended Collector’s Edition hitting stores next week and I am thrilled to have a few of them to deliver directly to CHUD.com readers.
The
longer version. Packed with features. Jim Cameron says this isn’t going
to get double dipped. If you like the movie, this is the version you’ll
want.
Here’s how to win:

You're not alone, Nick. I love it too.
How on earth was anyone on CHUD ever going to admit to liking it when it was preceded by 18 months of vitriolic spew from Devin? The sychophants couldn't but fall in line. The film is fucking wonderful. Don't feel you need to explain Nick.
This film is indeed a masterpiece. I don't care if the story's unoriginal; most stories are. Few are as well-told as this one. I also still think, after re-reading the article Devin wrote oh-so-long ago about the movie, that the film we got was much better than the alternative version described there, in so many ways. Anyway, cool contest, but… I'm holding out for the Blu-Ray.
THIS POST HAS BEEN REMOVED
I'm constantly amazed by what an internet crime it is to have your own taste in something.
Dude, #4, you seriously need to take a pill!
Agreed, AndyB. Also, I wonder what Teh Suck" said. Probably something like, "this site sucks now… blah, blah… movie is retarded… blah, blah…" and then probably called those of us who like it "mouth-breathers" or something. Actually, "THIS POST HAS BEEN DELETED" sounds like it's a pretty good paraphrasing of whatever it was.
Hey, I saw Avatar! And I didn't die! Kick ASSSSSSS!
You know…one scene that always stood out to me in that Project 880 piece Devin wrote was where Jake Sully, in his first time controlling his Avatar, wept. Do you know how viciously Devin would have torn into that scene for being 'melodramatic' or something similar? It would have been a bloodbath. That's when it hit me that Devin just doesn't like James Cameron, AS A PERSON. He doesn't care about the art; he cares about the artist. And, incidentally, that's when I stopped giving two shits about what he wrote.
Don't usually like to go off topic on these comments but (deep breath).. it was actually Devin's reaction to Avatar that was the final straw for me too, and I AGREED with him about it. The problem I had was that he was so bullish, and insistent that everyone else see it the way that he did, and that if you didn't see it that way there was something inherently wrong with you. It was almost as if he was screaming 'I'M RIGHT' and beating you round the head till you came to his viewpoint. My respect for him went right out of the window on that one. I'm honestly enjoying CHUD a lot more now as there just seems to be less of that … dickishness I guess, and more openess to the fact that people like different things.
I think Devin wasn't rallying against CHUD readers per se, he was rallying against the various trolls and "Avatards" who ostracized him for not embracing Cameron's movie. Just check his past articles on AVATAR and scan some of the many sneering feedback comments he received. He was only responding in kind. Both the pro and anti-AVATAR camps are guilty of the same sins at some point or another.
Yeah, but he was getting nasty about Avatar months before it came out. And then once it WAS out he would take every opportunity to slam the thing, as well as the people who enjoyed it, even in articles that had absolutely nothing to do with Avatar. It was like some weird form of internet bullying… which was, in the long run, really more annoying than anything else. Made me stop coming here on a regular basis for awhile.
I would love to have a copy…great movie
