Usually, when reporting on a story such as this, I hit the article with the “Rumor Du Jour” caveat. But for this story – not a word of which I believe, FYI – I just have to call bullshit on it. I leave it to you to decide for yourselves whether or not to buy what the source article is selling.
Comic Book Movie (who did go with the rumor in the headline, as well as a disclaimer at the bottom of the article) claims that they have a source that states Warner Bros. will be looking to get back into the Batman TV series biz once The Dark Knight Rises finishes its theatrical run. Moreover, the Joker will be the main villain and that the person in contention for the black cape and fancy bat gizmos is Karl Urban. Warner Bros. apparently feels this is the best way to reintroduce the Joker so as to avoid trashing Heath Ledger’s legacy. They name without naming the WB exec who would be overseeing the project: someone who has worked on Two and a Half Men, The Mentalist, ER, The West Wing, Without A Trace and Friends.
If even any part of this is true, I’ll revisit this article or follow it up as needed. But for right now, I’ll stick with the bull hooey take.

I can imagine WB considering this at some point down the line. I can't see them running with a 4th or 5th film in this continuity without Nolan and Bale, so a nice way to continue these stories without betraying the fans of the films. With the right show runner it could be pulled off well; TV quality is damn near cinematic these days.
Then again, we're talking about a $billion+ series here, so I'm probably giving WB too much credit.

After making such a successful claim for BATMAN on the big screen, it's hard to imagine WB shrinking him down to TV size. Given what's going on with SPIDER-MAN right now it seems more likely that they'd reboot the BATMAN film series with a new director. So I agree with the bullshit reading. BATMAN is now too big for TV. Unless you're talking about cartoons, naturally. And who ever said that Nolan won't eventually decide he wants to do number four? Just because he's been treating this as a trilogy doesn't mean he's going to keep it that way.
Meh. Let enough time to pass so that they can divorce themselves from the Nolan canon, and give us a live action TAS, complete with the characters that Nolan will not utilize.
And bring the 60s Batman to DVD, damn it.
That scenario sounds just about too awesome to be true. With some inspired casting, some talented writing and a network willing to fork over the budget needed to make it work this would be a huge moneymaker for WB. No reason we can't have an excellent live action comic book adaptation series of Batman when AMC is already knocking Walking Dead out of the park. Get AMC, FX or HBO and I guarantee it would be huge.
Of course, with my luck, it'll be a shitty 30 minute FOX summer filler with no budget and cancelled after 4 episodes.
How about a "Gotham Central" series that focuses on the GCPD that fits in with Nolan's continuity that features bit players from the films (for instance, the guy that played Cop #4 or something) in more prominent roles, as well as characters that are too small for the films that can maybe be built up more and cameo in later films? Batman, Gordon, and other bigger characters can be talked about and still play into storylines without ever really appearing onscreen.
As long as its as good as "Birds Of Prey", oh wait a minute……fuck!
Comic Book Movie,as a news source,ranks right below pulling things out of your ass and passing them off as fact. This is nothing more than deluded fanwank.
They should do it on HBO, get good creators behind it, let comic book writers write it, and they could seriously have the greatest tv show ever made on their hands. This character was made to be longform.
I'd rather see the Gotham Central tv series they were planning at some point.
