MTV recently nabbed an interview with Mark Wahlberg and asked him about the rumors that he’s involved with the Uncharted movie, which is of course based on the best-selling PS3 series. He didn’t hesitate at all in saying that he’s up for the main character of Nathan Drake. What’s more, David O. Russell (Three Kings, The Fighter) is writing and directing, and there might be roles for Robert DeNiro and Joe Pesci.
Wow. How would those two fit in?
“I’m obviously in whatever David wants to do but the idea of it is so off the charts: De Niro being my father, Pesci being my uncle. It’s not going to be the watered-down version, that’s for sure.”
Could definitely see DeNiro being a good Sully.

if Walhburg is Drake I am not seeing it, bottom line. He just does not have the 'vibe' for that character. Drake is a very sarcastic witty character which I have never seen Walhburg do. I'm out if this is true.
No Nathan Fillion is just lame
Completely the wrong type of casting. Not even close. You have to be able to have the dry wit of someone like Ryan Reynolds while being a bit of an everyman (Fillion seems like a nice guy, but no). Yeah, this is all wrong.
So incredibly happy that Nathan Fillion did not get this part. What the interhole's fascination with that chinless geek is, I'll never know.
Walhburg as Drake=Fail. Drake is a wisecracker and displays a wide range of emotions during the game that Walhburg simply doesn't have. If Drake wandered around with a permanent confused frown on his face, maybe this would be a good choice. Otherwise, this movies was just officially doomed before a single frame was filmed.
So, what he's saying is, it's a watered-down version that changes a bunch of shit for no good reason? Sounds like a great idea.
I'm with the others – I don't buy this casting. How about Daniel Craig?
whiskeypriest, you only hate Nathan Fillion because so many people love him. We fear what we don't understand, and all that. Personally, I think he's good, and could pull this one off… but there are better choices out there. Wahlberg, however, ain't one of them. DOESN'T ANYBODY CARE WHAT'S HAPPENING TO THE BEEEEES?!?!?
He said, "It's not going to be the watered-down version" but whatever. Does anyone here know who David O. Russsell is? For a movie fan this is good news.
I think we all knew this was coming with O. Russell involved. Oh well…at least he resembles the character physically. Also, De Niro as Sully would be awesome.
Horrible choice…. for director too.
I'm not getting this casting at all. Mark Wahlberg is about as anemic as they come when cast in action movies, or didn't Planet of the Apes teach us anything? And De Niro as Sully? That is wrong on so many levels.
DONT YOU UNDERSTAND??? NATHAN FILLION IS NATHAN DRAKE, THERE HAS NEVER BEEN A BETTER CASTING DECSISION, HE IS PERFECT FOR THE ROLE
Nathan Fillion is the logical choice to play Drake. Anyone who has played the game know that. The problem is Nathan Fillion is the new Bruce Campbell. His fans love him, but he is not a huge Hollywood draw and in the end, its all about making studios money. That said, have they even looked to see how bad the last Wahlberg video game movie tanked? I love Nathan, I think he would best bring the character to life in a motion picture, but we are going to get another craptastic video game movie.
thank CHRIST it's not going to reynolds. thought walhberg was great in the other guys and also brought the funny to his role in the departed. think it's a good fit. de niro as sully btw = out of this world amazing.
To be added to the worst casting Hall of Shame.
why dont we just put Mark Wahlberg in everything? i hear he looks good in underwear and makes the studios lots of money.
and to that end, who doesn't want to see Robert DeNiro and Joe Pesci further satirize and degrade themselves?
I don't necessarily need Fillion to do it, thought I do love me some Captain Mal, but Wahlberg? My interest level in this film will absolutely plummet if he is cast as the lead. I've never seen him successfully carry a film. He's a great supporting actor, but leading an adventure movie? No thanks.
Really? Way to go Hollywood for completely dropping the ball on this casting – I mean honestly? I don't think they could cast someone further from what the roll needed than Wahlberg. If he was picking from his Three Kings boys – Clooney would of been a better fit, and he's not a good fit either. Makes me a sad panda. I don't mind Wahlberg in certain rolls but he's definitely not the charismatic funny man that Drake needs to be.
Did The Happening really put the kibosh on all the good will he generated around here from his excellent role in The Departed? Some run-of-the-mill videogame adaptation has fallen into very talented hands and you're all throwing a hissy. I guess Walhberg doesn't have the immense acting chops required to bring some vapid videogame character to life.
#19, spot on. And I'm a fan of the games.
Man, shoulda cast Sean Patrick Flanery He even looks like Nathan Drake!
No just no, Mark Wahlberg is so wrong for this it's not even funny. He just doesn't have the roguish charm or charisma that is inherent to Nathan Drake.
Didn't anyone learn anything from Wahlbergs shitty turn as Max Payne?
Horrible idea. He is totally wrong for that role.
I don't see Deniro as Scully either.
holy shit. I wake up to this terrible news? FUCK YOU HOLLYWOOD!!
It says Deniro is playing Drake's father. Sully is not Drake's father. Ergo, Deniro is probably not playing Sully. Actually "Sully" is short for Sullivan, the character's last name which as you can see != Drake, Nathan's last name. If they're making Sully Drake's father in the movie version then that's kind of a drag. Who wants to go on Indiana Jones-style adventures with their dad? Indy sure didn't. It was a pain in his ass.
Why is no one talking about David O. Russell as director? That seems like the much bigger story to me. He's doing a friggin' video game adaptation-if it's good, it will be the first good video game adaptation ever.
I mean, it's almost annoying how that isn't news itself.
Attn David O. Russell
Drake: Sam Worthington (watch the part in Avatar where he has stubble and short black hair -he looks exactly like Drake)
Sully: Craig Nelson (Seriously, I thought it was Craig Nelson doing the voice in the game. It wouldn't be that hard to make him a believable Sully)
Elena: Amy Adams (she needs more roles, and I think she's a perfect fit for Elena)
Sam Worthington couldn't act his way out of a fucking bag- that's why he was in that terminator flick as a robot… cuz he's already a lifeless cunt.
AWFUL!!!!!!!! I hate this movie already!!!! Change him immediately!
This is the worst casting news possible……………
Since Nathan Fillion will not be playing Drake, I will not be paying to see this film. I'll catch it on Showtime in four years.
Also, did we learn NOTHING from the Max Payne film? Just because there are more franchisable characters than there are bankable action stars doesn't mean they can't at least attempt to cast someone who already played a different video game character.
Wahlberg showed he can give good wise-crack in The Departed. It's not the end of the world – no need for everyone to get sand up in their vaginas. I prefer to look for the best in people – Wahlberg aint beyond redemption.
Nathan Drake is tall and lanky while Wahlberg is short and stocky.
At least find an actor like Brandon Routh and give them an audition to see if they have the chops to pull off the wisecracking persona. Don't just go with the lowest common denominator straight away.
The reason everyone wants Fillion is because, y'know the character Fillion plays in every movie/show? Nathan Drake is the SAME CHARACTER. They even have the same first name, which anyone who actually played the damn game would know wasn't a coincidence!
No… no just… please don't let it be true.. It must be april fools because there is no way in FUCK that I'm reading this right.. Mark Wahlberg???!! That is possibly the worst choice they could have picked!!
He is nothing like Drake! Do they not even research the game before they make a damn movie about it! This guy is hideous.. I don't like even looking at him or watching him act normally.. but he is going to destroy my all time favorite game, and favorite character!! I will not watch this rubbish of a movie!! CHANGE HIM RIGHT NOW GOD DAMNIT
Walberg's a fine actor (I look forward to "The Fighter"), but he's not Drake. Just like Kirsten Dunst wasn't MJ, Ryan Reynolds isn't Hal Jordan, Chris Evans isn't Cap, and Tim Olyphant wasn't Agent 47!
I loved the happening. Maybe the rest of you just didn't get it?
Nathan Drake=Nathan Fillion. Apparently these studio execs have never seen Firefly or Serenity. I like Mark Wahlberg, but this is a terrible casting choice, and DeNiro as Sully, wtf?
Jensen Ackles would be another good choice over Wahlberg
