IFC Films has announced a release date for James Gunn’s Super. The Slither and Tromeo and Juliet genius brings to us the story of an everyday hero with aspirations to fight evildoers, played by Rainn Wilson of The Office. Ellen Page, Liv Tyler, Kevin Bacon and Michael “Crazy one-handed Merle” Rooker will appear.

Super will hit theaters in NYC and LA on April 1st (yes, April Fool’s day) and roll out to other cities in the weeks to come.
I’m sure most everyone is sick to death of “realistic” superhero films, what with Kick-Ass, Defendor and Special all tackling similar material in different ways, but Gunn’s sense of humor is looking as mean and twisted as ever. This previously-released clip should be all you need to convince you to
see the film.

I say again: that is a stupidly unfunny clip. It's just dumb.
They already made a movie like this. It was called "Defendor" with Woody H. and it was great. This doesn't look… necessary.
Anyone that is already comparing this to other "real" super hero films, does not understand what James Gunn brings to the table.
He's sick, twisted, obsessed with gore, and fucking hilarious. This movie will most likely be better than most fan boys will give it credit for.
Saw this in Sitges this year. It was by far the very best "normal person wants to be Superhero" movie I have seen.
Funny, sick, twisted, gory and just plain brilliant.
I preferred this to both Kick Ass and Defendor.
This clip by itself does absolutely nothing for me, but who knows how it plays in context? James Gunn has a track record of AWESOME and I'm looking forward to the movie.

Doesn't really look like any of those other movies b/c he's not hitting him b/c he's a bad guy/villain, he's hitting him in the face with a hammer b/c he's a rude jerk. That is funny and something more people want to do then "save the world" although if it's saving the world from countless, endless waves of rude selfish assholes then count me in.
Rainn Wilson is a one trick pony. It just feels like every character he plays is, to a varying degree, a shadow of Dwight Shrute: undeservedly arrogant, angry, know-it-all-ish, and bland. He has no range whatsoever. Special was the very best, if not the saddest, of the "realistic" superhero films, but they really need to quit. They are going to burn out audiences before we get to see the good films comic fans deserve.
